Player progression.

Can someone point me in the right direction to understand how to best progress players? It is all based on performance statistically? So far in my franchise both Rizzo and Bryant have dropped one overall point, I don't get it. It has nothing to do with their morale, either. I'm talking about their base rating.

Re: Player progression.

It's my understand that progression/regression is determined by:

* Performance
* Age
* Coaching
* Morale
* Potential

How all of this is factored into the formula, I'm not sure.

As to answer your primary question about the how to best progress players? I'm not sure there is a sure fire, set in stone method that will guarantee progression of a player.

Short of young (or, perhaps if the game is still using this instead, low service time) player playing well and being below potential, there really isn't.

Even then, there's the random factor of when guys take off or fall apart.

I feel that coaching has to have a larger effect on it. I recently fired a couple of coaches in my Rays Fantasy Draft Franchise, and saw almost immediate improvement to losses in rating.

Re: Player progression.

It's still tied to service time, especially what you're talking about OP with the random, nonsensical regression to young stars doing well. There is no logic or reason to it.

Progression in the game is really great and dynamic, and a lot of factors can make a prospect progress (or not).

Regression on the other hand is a steaming pile. I work my own system for regression using edits. Otherwise a player like Bartolo Colon will never happen in the Show.

Re: Player progression.

Hmmm, I may have to change my coaches then. I have a few with negative attributes.

And this is a reason why I wish they would re-do how coaches affect player's attributes.

I think it's silly that a guy like, let's say Mike Trout suddenly becomes a worse hitter or defender because a coach or two that you hire have negative attributes in a certain category.

Really really really wish they would give managers and coaches tendencies and teaching attributes or developmental attributes or something of the sort, versus that of just a + or - in 4 attribute categories.

I'll stop there as I don't want to move this thread off topic.
