Re: MLB The Show '22 - New Commentary Team
I'll miss Matty V if he is indeed gone, but a lot of his lines were getting pretty stale after all these years.
I grew to like Boog from this year on the Cubs so this will definitely be pretty cool. Even if there isn't much else new with commentary a new team will definitely be a breath of fresh air. And I think a two-person team will feel a bit more natural and possibly allow for it to feel a bit more like a conversation at times instead of just a mashup of one-liners
I guess they've been working behind the scenes on this since 2019.
"The duo has worked together since 2010 as the broadcast team for ESPN Radio’s “Sunday Night Baseball.” Their behind-the-scenes work on the video game’s commentary began in the summer of 2019.
Sciambi and Singleton estimate they recorded about 200 and 150 hours of audio, respectively, for “MLB: The Show,” which comes out April 5."
This is the most exciting thing about this years game so far, and probably the only reason for me to buy it (as of right now) lol. I just can't stand the current team anymore. It leads me to simming way more than I play at this point.

I’ve turned to other audio when playing (live baseball games on TV, YouTube, podcasts, netflix) because of how repetitive the commentary was and how it didn’t add anything for me.
But with a new crew I will definitely be listening every game. Really exciting stuff and hopefully it can bring in more immersion for me

The biggest thing I don't understand with the current crew is that Matty V is a very exciting announcer in real life, yet in the game he doesn't show even 50% of that excitement on a big play or even a home run.
This was a necessary change, and even from that short trailer, I felt more excited about that Ohtani homer!
