The games animation is weak in my opinion

based upon all the vids i have seen i think its safe to say that the animation (striking mostly) pales in comparison to that of :

Fight Night 3
NBA 2k
Fifa
The Show
SmackDown

Far too robotic, and the way a players head just bobbles as he eats punches with very little body reaction isnt a sound representation of the sport. I have seen clips where a person has taken solid punches to the head and didnt stumble backwards in any realistic motion at all, solid as an oak tree.

I know there are the few guys that can eat shots, but they are far and few between.

I totally agree, it caught my eye when i was watching the stand up tutorial.

I dont like how they stand so close and kind of just rock'em sock 'em robot each other with little stumbling back.

But the game has to start somewhere i guess and it is thq's first crack at mma right? So I'm still very impressed with everything else.

I agree but there is stumbling back on punches that are effective. Fighters dont stumble back on every punch. To the original poster, it isnt fair to compare the first version of a game to games that are in their 4th or 10th (in NBA 2k and the Show's case) version of the game

Re: The games animation is weak in my opinion

It's been like this from the first videos and I have been hoping we'd see it change. There seems to be too much space between a punch that finishes a guy and a punch that simply makes contact.

Punches that conclude with a knockout have more animation with faces contorting and the body becoming loose. Normal punches that make contact look unrealistic with a blank look on the recipients face and you are left with the impression that you are hitting...hitting..hitting...until the meter drops and bam he goes into a knockout animation.

Not good, and I think a game like Fight Night 4, with its new physics may make this game look several steps behind.

Yea I agree with the OP. The animations makes the gameplay like a RPG.ex pokemon where you tell the fighter an attack overn over untill your opponent collapse. After watching that marathon on spike tv of knockouts. I also want to see the animation where the ref lets the guy pound the other untill he steps in and calls the fight. All in all they just need to make these pro athletes play more loose and not so much uptight.

I always thought FN3 played like Rock'em Sock'em Robots ... I do agree that some of the videos the animation is kind of stiff but rewatch some of those FN3 videos and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Already in the game. Watch the Hughes/Serra KO video on gamespot.

I get your point, but THQ has far too much experience to let this slide and excuse it. And to Rebut, Fight Night 4 is made by an entirely different team with no boxing games under its belt and yet the animations seem buttery.

Also Round 3 had its flaws but robotic punches ( unless you were screwing with the TCP) were not one of them.
