In order for something to be fight of the year, you got to have 2 fighters who are willing to engage. Machida isn't an engaging type of fighter, he is not a banger. He is a counter striker who likes to circle around for 40 seconds, throw 1 or 2 punches and circle around for another 40 seconds.
That is exactly how Machida fights.
and rashad, and now anderson too.

the fight is a coin flip, i can't even bother to guess because the truth is no one has any idea - no one has any insight that could really give them an edge in guessing how the fight will go. could be anything

For an MMA fan this is going to be one hell of a week. First UFC Undisputed 2009 is released, then we get this PPV over the weekend.

Fights I'm most looking forward to:

Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida
Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra
Sean Sherk vs. Frank Edgar

If Rashad beats Machida I think most of his haters are going to jump off a bridge. I like Machida and I think he's a great fighter but I can't root against Sugar Shad.

I'll never EVER pull for Matt Hughes in a fight. Go Serra.

Sean Sherk and Frankie Edgar should be sick. Edgar deserves a big win so hopefully he takes out the steroid shark. Pretty sure this one will be a war that goes to a decision.

Houston Alexander's preliminary fight should only last a minute one way or another so I'm sure we'll get to see that. I'd also like to see Pat Barry and Yoshiyuki Yoshida.
We share the same great mind, couldn't agree more on these picks.

Re: UFC 98: Evans vs. Machida

Houston has a problem and will apprently be replaced by Krzysztof...

"Soszynski Steps Up - Canadian light-heavyweight Krzysztof (The Polish Experiment) Soszynski will replace the injured Houston (The Assassin) Alexander against Andre Gusmao at UFC 98 on May 23 in Las Vegas.

Alexander was forced to withdraw over the weekend because of a broken hand."

http://tsn.ca/mma/story/?id=277615

Confirmation on sherdog on Houston being out but says a replacement hasn't been annouced (but that was yesterday): http://sherdog.com/news/news/bad-bre...m-ufc-98-17311

Also from the same TSN article:

"Jason (The Athlete) MacDonald and David (The Crow) Loiseau, two of the most experienced Canadian fighters in the UFC, have been cut by the mixed martial arts organization.

Fellow Canadian 185-pounder Jason (Dooms) Day has also been released, the UFC confirmed Tuesday."

Sucks for Houston but this is a better match up IMO.

Hopefully MacDonald can get a few wins under his belt and make it back. I was also hoping Day would get one more shot. But the Crow is done. He looked like a complete scrub and spent like 10 minutes of his fight with Herman turtling.

Rashad Evans + nipple twists = doom for Machida and his "elusivness"

WAR Hughes!

I really want Alexander to win a fight for a change and Yoshida to rebound from the Koshchek loss.

He's still hurting from that KO.

I really hope Machida pounds Rashad into the damn ground. I can't stand that guy, he is a disrespectful, over confident, piece of crap that really needs to be put to sleep. That way his head can shrink some.
