Kevin McHale
I think he's been done before but he's changed a lot since the update. For this reason, I shat myself when I pulled him in blacktop. His strength, vertical, middy, driving layup, and lateral quickness all got significant boosts. Especially the latter. Now that he is able to move less like a statue and more like a human, he deserves a spot on my lineup.
Scoring - This is the reason you play this
elongated twerp. Give it to him down low and he has at least 69 ways to score. "Trying to hold McHale when he's posting up is like trying to hold water in your hands." Speaking of which, his 95 hands is an absolute blessing. Passes from the PG to McHale literally never get intercepted or fumbled. Hook is great, and post fade is
absolute money. Easy to green, hot zones all over the court and his 97 rating is cheaply boosted with a shoe to a 99, which I think makes a genuine difference. Who the hell knows how this game is coded, but I think it's more than a 2% difference. I've noticed in general that 99 stats "feel" different from 96 or 97. And when his matchup starts predicting the post fade, you can just chain into an up & under with that HOF badge, or just post spin with yet another HOF badge. He's post-spinned right around Yao and scored
buckets. That's not just impressive. It's cheesy, easy, and definitely sleazy. All 3 of these moves work much better than they used to with his increased strength and hot zones. Whenever I'm being equalized, I give the ball to Mchale and let him elongate the **** out of the enemy.
The HOF drop-step badge is meh. He's just too skinny. It works great on smaller stretch 4's like Giannis or Durant, but he has a problem scoring on larger players. Which brings me to one of his weaknesses. This man bricks more dunks than any diamond should. Pretty sure the 70 standing dunk and 55 contact are to blame. He dunks fine off pick & rolls and clean post spins, but I usually go for a layup if the shot is at all contested. Acrobat is a must, and Tear Dropper IMO. Bricks a lot of alley oops as well, but literally always makes those BS tip-in ones.
Midrange is good if he's open. The hot zones help, but he's only an 80. Free throw is, annoyingly, a 77. Thanks 2k. Thankfully his draw foul is in the 70s, which I think is a good thing. Gets wet buckets way more often than fouls.
Rebounding - Great rebounding. Not elite, with only a 75 vert, but he does an excellent job.
Playmaking - Bad playmaking.
Defense - In general, he defend anyone who can't outrun him, and in the post he's a god. 98 shot contest, 94 strength and 98 LPDIQ are not to be trifled with. Decent perimeter defender with his 84 LQ and high contest. But he's slow. He can lock down guards, but not in transition. If you're playing him against Giannis, you're just plain screwed.
Overall he's one of my favorite players to play with, he's just so crafty and schwifty. I think he's best paired with an athletic team and a stretch 5 to make up for his lack of a 3.
