I used this trick as well for years with the Celtics (given all their retired numbers and and non Celtic legends I would stack on their roster). Apparently with this years version of NBA2K you can no longer "game the system." I recently tried this Dr. J and Magic and it is no longer an option.

Just for clarification here is my example for the Hawks: Frank Kaminski is #8 but Justin Holiday has that number. Justin is in real life is #9. So, I figured I’d go change Justin to #9 freeing up #8 for Kaminsky. However, when i go to change Jalen’s # to 9, it is unavailable as is #’s 6 & 7 which are also not assigned to anyone. Is there some setting I’m missing to make these numbers available? Does it have anything at all to do with G-League #’s?
Thanks for any help… first time working with rosters in NBA2k.
NBA.com has outdated information. Kaminsky is wearing #0 and Holiday #8. The numbers you are posting are their numbers on their previous teams.

One workaround is exporting DNA from the 2K Roster once they have the correct info up.

For example Nickeil Alexander-Walker is still #6. That auto-changed for me when I released him to the FA pool to get the Two-Way players on the roster.

Re: Assigning uniform numbers

I just tried to give n.23 to Vucevic on the current Bulls team and i was able to find a way to do it, you have to import\export the guy from 2k share.

Lets say you want Vucevic with n.23 on the current Bulls. 1- trade Vucevic to another team where 23 is available. I used the Cavs. 2- change his name and number to Michael Jordan and 23. 3- export him on 2kshare. 4- trade the real MJ on the Bulls. 5- overwrite the real MJ with the saved Vucevic (named MJ) from 2k share.
