Draft Class #3 Power Forward Scouting Report

Power Forward

Though they aren't much for big men this season, it's Wenli Yi's running mate in China Mingyu Chan who seems to be the talk of this year's draft. Chan is a legit 7-footer with a great combination of size and skill. Without a doubt the most skilled big in the draft, Chan has quite the offensive repertoire. His distribution skills are vastly underrated, and he has the potential to pair his deadly midrange jumper with a smooth post game. I wouldn't be surprised to see a team take a chance on Mingyu Chan, as he seems to be a great fit next to an athletic rim protector.

Mingyu Chan - PF, 7'0", 238 lbs, 21 years old, China
Strengths: Deadly midrange jumper, budding post game, smart player, excellent playmaker in the high post

Weaknesses: Below-average rebounder for his size, not a spectacular defender or athlete

NBA Comparison: Dirk Nowitzki

----------------------------------------------------

Kentucky continues its dominance in acquiring top freshman. Its latest haul includes the tweener forward Clifton Gardner. Gardner is a 6'10" forward with great length, but is rather lanky to be a true power forward. It will be interesting to see how coach Calipari utilizes Gardner, who seems to just be a lengthy athlete with all of the potential in the world. However, if there is anything that we know about Gardner, it's that he will be a vicious rebounder and shotblocker for the Wildcats.

Clifton Gardner - PF, 6'10", 218 lbs, 19 years old, Kentucky
Strengths: Excellent rebounder, swats shots at a high clip, excellent athlete for his size, good touch inside

Weaknesses: Questions on his ability to space the floor, not good with the ball in his hands, inconsistent defender

NBA Comparison: Josh Smith

----------------------------------------------------

Other Notable Power Forwards

D.J. Simmons - PF, 6'8", 252 lbs, 20 years old, UCLA
Strengths: A bit of a throwback/old school player, can space the floor a bit, wide frame allows him to bully others down low, deceptive athleticism, tenacious rebounder

Weaknesses: Inconsistent behind the three-point line, below-average defender inside and on the perimeter, lack of length could hurt him

NBA Comparison: Trevor Booker

Stefan Schroeder - PF, 6'9", 215 lbs, 19 years old, Germany
Strengths: Could become a force offensively, has shown ability to space the floor

Weaknesses: Very raw on both ends, not yet a good rebounder, needs to add a lot of strength

NBA Comparison: Jonas Jerebko

Johnnie Newton - PF, 6'9", 233 lbs, 20 years old, Memphis
Strengths: Possibly the best rebounder in college basketball, very tough/hardnosed player

Weaknesses: Virtually no offensive game aside form putbacks, below-average athlete, not great defensively

NBA Comparison: Reggie Evans

Draft Class #3 Center Scouting Report
PSN: JazzMan_OS
File Name: JazzMan Fictional #3

Center

Kentucky freshman Derrick Rivers looks to be joining fellow Wildcat freshman Clifton Gardner to join one of the most formidable frontcourt duos in college basketball. Rivers' combination of size, speed, and strength should translate perfectly to the NBA, where he can play both the center and the power forward positions. Although he has essentially no low-post game to speak of yet, he's a crazy-good finisher inside and is a tenacious rebounder, as well. Look for Rivers to become a force for the Wildcats and potentially a force in the NBA.

Derrick Rivers - C, 6'10", 251, 19 years old, Kentucky
Strengths: Excellent athleticism for a big, good rim protector, great finisher inside, dunks with authority, good rebounder on both ends

Weaknesses: Needs a lot of work on the offensive end, a bit inconsistent in one-on-one defense, not very disciplined

NBA Comparison: DeAndre Jordan

----------------------------------------------------

One of the young freshman that is highly touted out of high school is none other than North Carolina's Omar Edwards. What Edwards lacks in athleticism, he makes up for in strength and brute force. Though he's not yet a threat on the offensive end, his length and footwork inside is sure to cause some problems for opposing teams. Not to mention, this kid has about all of the defensive potential in the world.

Omar Edwards - C, 6'11", 288 lbs, 19 years old, North Carolina
Strengths: Very strong, good footwork inside, lots of potential on both ends

Weaknesses: Still very raw, not a good athlete, needs conditioning work

NBA Comparison: Steven Adams

----------------------------------------------------

Other Notable Centers

Sasa Demunyck - C, 7'0", 248 lbs, 24 years old, Slovenia
Strengths: Very skilled big man, possesses a deadly mid-range jumper, finishes inside well, one of the best passing big men prospects ever quite possibly

Weaknesses: Some questions about rebounding, slightly below-average defensively, not a low-post threat

NBA Comparison: Marcin Gortat

Ross Barrett - C, 7'0", 252 lbs, 22 years old, Stanford
Strengths: Great floor spacer for a big, decent rebounder, capable defender, "veteran" like player

Weaknesses: Not a good athlete, not a particularly dominant player

NBA Comparison: Kelly Olynyk

Re: JazzMan's 2k15 Fictional Draft Classes (PS4)

Draft Class #4 Point Guard Scouting Report
PSN: JazzMan_OS
File Name: JazzMan Fictional #3

Point Guard

Young Duke recruit Thomas Foster is listed at 6'1" coming into his freshman season, but I'd be surprised if he was taller than 6'0" at all. The young floor general is a throwback to the small-statured, stocky point guard that uses his short but wide frame to get leverage on opposing guards. Though he's not the fastest point guard in the class, he uses his high-basketball IQ on both ends to dominate and take over games. There is definitely a reason as to why Coach K worked so hard to bring this kid in; he can ball.

Thomas Foster - PG, 6'1", 216 lbs, 19 years old, Duke
Strengths: Surprisingly strong, a true point guard, sets his teammates up well, unrivaled ball skills, potential to be a perennial all-defensive team player, very disciplined on defense

Weaknesses: Not as fast as your prototypical point guard, definitely not as tall as his 6'1" listed height, needs to work on his range

NBA Comparison: Chris Paul

----------------------------------------------------

Colorado's homegrown star Lou Nelson has lived in the Boulder area throughout his entire life. After being highly-sought after by Kansas, Texas, and Wisconsin, Nelson chose his hometown university so that he could stay close to his family. In the process, he turned himself into one of college basketball's biggest stars. In an era where star freshmen leave for the NBA after one year of collegiate ball, Nelson opted to help put Colorado basketball back on the map. He led the Buffs to a Final Four appearance last season, and is returning for his senior season. At a staggering 6'6", Nelson is the prototypical combo-guard. He is a playmaker with the ball and a spot-up shooter without. Though he's already 22 years old, Nelson could be a hot commodity this June.

Lou Nelson - PG, 6'6", 210 lbs, 22 years old, Colorado
Strengths: Penetrates well, exceptional playmaking skills, his length allows him to dominate opposing point guards in the paint and on D, nightly triple-double threat

Weaknesses: Has had consistency issues with his three-ball, not the most athletic player in the draft, "jack-of-all-trades," not particularly great at a single thing

NBA Comparison: Shaun Livingston

----------------------------------------------------

Other Notable Point Guards

Lamar Mason - PG, 6'2", 181 lbs, 21 years old, Iowa State
Strengths: Amazing athlete, possibly the fastest player in the draft, very good defender, hits spot-up jumpers consistently

Weaknesses: Often tries to do too much, needs to work on creating his own shot

NBA Comparison: Norris Cole

Eric Mason - PG, 6'3", 189 lbs, 19 years old, Canada
Strengths: Hits the three with consistency, very talented ball-handler, fairly good on-ball defender

Weaknesses: Not a true point guard in the slightest, has problems with setting up his teammates, too small to be a two-guard

NBA Comparison: Eric Bledsoe

Grant Carlisle - PG, 6'0", 165 lbs, 21 years old, Arizona State
Strengths: Possesses NBA range on his jumper, fairly quick player, has nice court vision

Weaknesses: Liability defensively, struggles from midrange, not a good finisher inside

NBA Comparison: Mo Williams
