Re: 35 Year Fantasy Draft Experience- 1,460 Edited Rookies from 1948 to 2018

Hey what's up guys been a while. I haven't provided any updates because unfortunately I'm waiting on an update from my neurologist at the moment. I can't sit still because because of my restless leg, this darn thing is making me nauseous if I don't move it. I've been exercising pretty much most of my waking hours, bike rides and walks, and driving around. Needless to say I have not kept up with this project. I'm feeling slightly better than I did 4-5 days ago but I'm still faced with it today. There is some very good news though for anyone following this thread! And some more bad news after that...

Before I became a slave to long walks, I dove much deeper into the quality of each draft class seeing as how I'm gonna have all this free time on my hands. Figured might as well!

At first I only edited tendencies for created players, and a few of the big names that 2K has in the game. But now I can say that every player has had their tendencies revised. This is not to say that every tendency has been fixed, but on top of what I had done previously I've now added more edits to shooting tendencies, pull up and transition, iso, post up, roll/pop, spot/cut, and playmaking. It's still not perfect obviously, but it is a big difference for the 2K default players, some of them especially so.

And now the best part, I had a massive massive breakthrough with player progression. It all started when I realized the prospects in ML being older than what I listed them as. I had to go back and adjust everyone's age by one less to compensate and allow the rookies to be the age at the time they get drafted. For those who don't know, 2k20 has made this a nightmare job for me with all these classes (check Infamous NY's thread to see what I'm talking about.)

Now that ages were correct I could simulate some seasons and I did over 20 of them across multiple MyLeagues using different teams and draft years. I was having a tough time recreating some players' career arches and sadly I have to say that for the sake of balance it will not be achieved. The issue here lies with some of 2K's mechanics regarding this subject. If the player's rookie age and 'Peak Start' age are too close or overlap, then they will not experience sufficient growth during the 'Growth Stage' period. And often with any logical set of sliders the 'Peak Stage' will not yield as much growth or even stagnate in certain attributes. I had to adjust peak start/end to allow players to develop properly, which is fine as at least 65% of edits stayed the same thankfully and hopefully the career trajectory will be accurate. Some will be compromised though, like players whose first few years were their best.

Walt Bellamy for instance, one the best rookie season of all time averaging 31 pts 19 rebs. His peak was during his first four years in the league, with the first year being the most dominant and impressive statistically. Do I rate him based on that year and have it set so that his prospect rating reflected that? His rookie year his best, rated very highly and declining thereafter? I would have to make it so, to match the progression mechanics attached to the peak start/end. I have rated him quite highly in my universal overall scale (86, up there with Wilt and Kareem), but instead I have pushed back the peak start and the end slightly. This affords him a small window to grow and develop, while already being a beast. Again, this is just for hot start players. Most will have their rookie rating and career trajectories replicated fine. I wish I knew how to manipulate this stuff from the beginning, but I've got it figured out now how exciting. This will allow for pretty much any set of sliders to work with it. To the previously mentioned effect of free time, I've also really dialed down on the ratings and badges too as well the tendencies. They are fantastic! The sets previews are long due for an update, especially since better prospects have been included at the expense of low rated ones who won't see minutes.

Another thing I've experimented with in trying to distinguish career trajectories is messing with certain badges. The Team Player, Extremely Confident, and High/legendary Work Ethics badges have sliders to correspond with them. In addition to a high potential, I tried bumping up the progression slider for players who had these equipped in order to make certain players progress faster than others. It worked to my delight but this will require a universal formula in each roster and slider set. I've kept it mostly neutral for now, but it still can be done and I plan on starting at least one MyLeague with these edits sometime down the line. As it stands now, some small adjustments to badges for base roster are required to use these draft classes. They are necessary, and they make simulation stats more realistic.

Now for some more bad news. You are only allowed a maximum of 5 online 2K accounts . That's only 25 draft classes. I thought it was 7 like PSN's. I'm short 9 slots. I'll be unable to upload some of set 2006-2010, all of set 2011-2015, standalone years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. My brother is apparently very stingy about storage space, so short of buying another PS4 I may need to ask one of you kind people to lend a hand and help me host these files. Much work has already been done on those draft classes, but they are a while away from being completed.

Thanks for reading if you made it this far. Take care everyone, I'll holler at this thread again soon hopefully.

First off I hope you are feeling alright, that doesn't sound fun at all. I deal with restless legs as well as sciatica pain in my left leg.

Any chance you are willing to upload some of the older classes that you do have ready to go? While you are completing some of the newer stuff?

Re: 35 Year Fantasy Draft Experience- 1,460 Edited Rookies from 1948 to 2018

Hey there. Getting closer and closer to release! I've begun divvying the set base files. I've got that all done, now I'm wrapping up the current set I'm working on which would be the 2001-2005 set (very excited for this). It is underway.

I'm sorry to those who ask, but I want to upload these draft classes in unison. I'm content going back and updating previous uploads, but I'm glad I didn't because there has been a massive amount of updates over the last few weeks. As of now the overalls and ratings are basically final, so I can share more now. But like I said, I am getting closer each day to that goal. To any one who has taken interest in this project so far, then thank you and please hang in there.

In the meantime I'm going back and updating the set previews I posted in this thread. The prospect list will include the new additions I've made, as well as a more accurate ranking (not definitive b/c some of it is alphabetical and lacking context). I've kept some of the bench warmer players as opposed to replacing them. The drafts which originally featured 30 players might have up to 34.

What's more, I'm including a video preview for all the players in draft classes for each set. I have worked extremely hard on these ratings, and I'm proud to show them off. The 1996-2000 set will be previewed, but I am mulling over censoring some info for future video previews. The ratings and such will be available through 2K share, but I'm thinking about keeping them unknown, at least on here, for the sake of MyLeague draft. Especially with the more vintage classes, that contain a wide array of players whom might not be familiar to most 2K gamers.

Anyways, here is the preview vid for the 1996-2000 set, I've also updated the prospect list like I said (Post #30).

Great to hear. Are you doing Raul Lopez? #24 pick in the 2001 draft, first point guard to be selected that year.
