Working Theory: Why speed matters

After numerous tries of trying to find a right set, I believe the core problem has to do with game speed.

If you've played throughout the different difficulties, you will notice one common difference between them. The CPU tends to go through their animations faster on higher difficulty, creating the illusion of better reaction, when in fact it's just faster reaction. From my observation All Star provides a 1:1 reaction time between HUM AI and CPU AI. While on higher difficulties, the CPU goes through them faster and has them go slower on lower difficulties.

After playing dozens of games at 50, 48, 45 speed, I've come to the conclusion that those speeds are too slow at All Star. The animations and "travel time" (moving around in general) don't quite match up. That's why we get a lot of situations where the defender is out of position because he was in a animation and doesn't catch up with the offensive player or simply ignores it.

Right now, playing at 60 speed on All Star and getting much better flow on gameplay. AI Teammates are reacting better while offensive shots are lining up better with the animations (not getting bricks on wide open shots, or buckets on shots that have been smothered)

Give it a try, I would like to see others results.

Re: Working Theory: Why speed matters

I've had similar thoughts for a while now, but 60 I think may be setting it too high. Game Speed is one of the main things I'm testing right now as it has such a massive effect on not only the look and feel of the game, but also the way different interactions are carried out.

I'll post back here as well as my thread if I land on anything I really like.

Bigs can cover to much ground on defense(they are too fast)

Late contest on laups matter too much.

Random blocks doing pumpfakes.

Leaning shots for guys who have catch and shoot badge should be removed.

So what sbout speed slider and acceleration slider ?
Apart from thegamespeed slider ...i am sceptic about touching the gamespeed slider ..id rather bump speed and acceleration and leave the core speed as it is ..i have problems on breaks while the cpu killing me on breaks me on the other hand come to complete stops after cpu
Touch me with just a finger ...also my acceleration doesnt feel as quick
As the cpu's ..

I agree that 60 may be too much, I wanted to do a drastic setting to test out my theory. So far, I do see and feel a difference on from the AI, these are on All Star presets mind you.

If you raise speed and acceleration then players like westbrook who already have speed 95+ will not be affected because maximum is 99 so if you raise speed sloder to 65 slower guys will have around 80 speed or more.

Re: Working Theory: Why speed matters

Plus speed and acceleration simply change how quickly players move, whereas game speed affects animations, passing, shooting, shot contests, etc.

Re: Working Theory: Why speed matters

I agree. I bumped my speed up to 54 and notice a big difference in terms of the way the animations play out. I also raised the user quickness and lateral quickness up +5 and I can safely run fast breaks now.
