Re: The Russell Westbrook disrespect has to stop

Regardless of ratings, they do need to make him less of a bum in 2k. He's been a bum in 2k since he was good. Slashers and shot creators do not fare well in 2k (as AI.)

Re: The Russell Westbrook disrespect has to stop

It's a shame 2k still doesn't give us correct attribute definitions so we could end the confusion. Historically the rating hasn't been shot quality (which we still need a rating for) but more how quickly a player decides to shoot after that catch so having a lower rating here makes sense to me. Maybe not 25 low, but still.

Then again a higher rating by that same definition would make sense if he rushed shots that he should have took his time more so IDK LOL. 2K really needs to update attributes and tendenciesl

I've never liked Westbrook but man he was made the scapegoat for the Lakers real problem. Defense was their biggest problem last year. Lakers were eleventh in offensive scoring. More than enough to win enough games to get to the playoffs. But they didn't defend at all. Third worst in scoring defense.

Shot IQ = 25 ?!? Stop it.
Passing ratings averaging at about a 75?
I did a video on this a few days ago.

74 Layup is strong hate.

The 76ers for example.
92 Harden
89 Maxey
89 Harrell
87 Embiid
84 Milton
83 Melton
80 Harris
79 Charlie Brown Jr
78 House
75 Niang
75 Korkmaz
74 Thybulle
74 Julian Champagnie
74 Jaden Springer
*INSERT RUSSELL WESTBROOK HERE*
70 Trevelin Queen
70 Charles Bassey
69 Isiah Joe
64 Reed
55 Tucker

I watched basically every Lakers game last season Russ was a major part of why the defense was so bad. When you don’t fight around screen and you’re basically just wondering around while “guarding your man” that’s very detrimental to team defense. He also didn’t change his game up even a bit

Re: The Russell Westbrook disrespect has to stop

^The Sixers context is important because it's probable they don't even realize what his rating looks like on a real team.

97 LeBron James: 287-424 (68 FG%, 56 AST%)
89 Kendrick Nunn: 116-180 (64 FG%, 56 AST%)
85 Anthony Davis: 115-172 (67 FG%, 62 AST%)
82 Lonnie Walker: 89-155 (57 FG%, 60 AST%)
78 Patrick Beverley: 60-110 (55 FG%, 22 AST%)
74 Russell Westbrook: 322-588 (55 FG%, 26 AST%)
73 Scotty Pippen Jr
72 Thomas Bryant: 16-36 (44 FG%, 75 AST%)
70 Austin Reaves: 56-81 (69 FG%, 61 AST%)
70 Troy Brown: 45-85 (53 FG%, 62 AST%)
70 Damian Jones: 76-105 (72 FG%, 70 AST%)
70 Wenyen Gabriel: 28-54 (52 FG%, 43 AST%)
70 Max Christie
68 Juan Toscano: 61-111 (55 FG%, 69 AST%)
65 Cole Swider

The volume and shot difficulty are the keys here. Much like 2K gives Steph Curry a 99 3PT in part due to his volume.

Layup FGA/36
Westbrook: 7.9
LeBron: 7.3
Nunn: 3.9
Walker: 3.5
Beverley: 2.7

Kendrick Nunn has a high FG% but he isn't creating shots off the dribble. 60+ AST% is very high for a Point Guard, more in line with a SG/SF. Obviously the Lakers would have preferred Russ in a role closer to Nunn's, which would have maximized his efficiency. Westbrook can do what Nunn does, but Nunn can't do what Westbrook does.

PGs are typically in the 20-30% range for Layup AST% as evidenced by Beverley even though his volume is nowhere near Russ. (This is also why their FG% are likely to be much lower, and why you can't simply use percentage to evaluate this rating)

In general 2K's layup ratings are demonstrably atrocious as there are quite a few here that don't actually line up.

Damian Jones should obviously be much higher than Thomas Bryant, while Austin Reaves showed he's a vastly better finisher than the likes of Troy Brown.

My Layup Ratings
99 (+2) LeBron James: 287-424 (68 FG%, 56 AST%)
90 (+16) Russell Westbrook: 322-588 (55 FG%, 26 AST%)
90 (+1) Kendrick Nunn: 116-180 (64 FG%, 56 AST%)
90 (+5) Anthony Davis: 115-172 (67 FG%, 62 AST%)
90 (+20) Damian Jones: 76-105 (72 FG%, 70 AST%) - Reminder: 2K has Montrezl Harrell at 89
85 (+15) Austin Reaves: 56-81 (69 FG%, 61 AST%)
80 (-2) Lonnie Walker: 89-155 (57 FG%, 60 AST%)
80 (+2) Patrick Beverley: 60-110 (55 FG%, 22 AST%)
75 (+7) Juan Toscano: 61-111 (55 FG%, 69 AST%)
75 (+5) Troy Brown: 45-85 (53 FG%, 62 AST%)
70 (NC) Wenyen Gabriel: 28-54 (52 FG%, 43 AST%) - Career: 44-98 (45%)
65 (-7) Thomas Bryant: 16-36 (44 FG%, 75 AST%) - Pre-Injury Career: 178-302 (59%)

(I will re-do a few of these as I don't think I'm factoring volume enough, just FG% vs AST%).

Shot IQ in the game and general basketball IQ aren't the same thing though. From a dev blog on 2K22: "The major emphasis for shooting success this year is Shot IQ. The teams that work for open looks and take smart shots are going to see much more success than the teams that force up bad shots." Shot IQ is exactly as it sounds, the quality of shots that a player takes.

Westbrook's shot selection in general, but especially last year, is awful. Literally the entire arena knows it is a bad shot and audibly gasps and then Westbrook defiantly forces the bad shot anyway, lol. It's nothing new though...teams have been playing 10 feet off Westbrook for years and he still chucks up bricks from 3 point range. Say what you will about Ben Simmons, at least he knows he can't shoot, ha. Given the way Westbrook's shot selection has trended and given his role within the Lakers' offense where he has to play more off-the-ball then he has in the past, there is no reason to think his shot selection (i.e. Shot IQ) is going to get any better this year.
