But with 2k23 the hardcoding is not there anymore, so playbooks and plays in the playbooks and the run plays coach profile slider work in synergy the way they should.

You should not need to mess with global tendency sliders at all.
Just raise the run plays coach profile to 99.
You may also need to check the plays assigned to players, and the players "touch" tendency.
Some players have play types set but the actual play type is not even on the teams playbook. Doh 2k!
Ie: a players 1st play is "mid range" it's 2nd is "cutter" but neither of those plays are in the actual playbook so the player hardly has any plays for them.
That and the touches tendency is a big factor in play calling.

And again. Going through the roster and editing like I always do, you cannot rely on 2ks default tendencies etx... they are soooo off for some players.
So make sure the play types correlate to the actual plays in the playbook and the touches tendency for the scoring stars on the team are higher than the role players. .
The key regarding touches tendency is balance and it takes testing to find it with each team.

But yeah.
I am seeing heaps of play calling variety with my roster using the methods I mentioned above.
Would you mind sharing your roster with the community? Would be great to try it out!

Check the roster section of the forum.

No one is downloading it this season.
Their loss.
I've been roster editing to improve the cpu gameplay and single player experience for over 20 years. It's literally my hobby.

It is NOT a standard roster though.
It is a superleague roster only designed for a single season., no injuries.

Copied from my roster thread.

PS5.

USERNAME: nogman7

2K SHARE ROSTER: NOGSTERS SUPERLEAGUE

2K SHARE SCENARIO: NOGSTERS SUPERLEAGUE
(my league setup. 60gm season, No injuries, all teams user controlled.)

After over 100 hours compiling/creating/editing, this beast of a roster is finally completed.

This roster is practically the jordan, kobe and modern era combined.
I compiled each team with 10 of their best or most suited players from 92/93 to now. (So now Bird or Magic)
The players had to have at least 3 seasons exp with team unless currently on it.
I took some liberties.. and some players who made the cut, Ie Parish and Worthy are rated on the downside of their careers.

NO DUPLICATES! So Lebron is on Cavs only , Shaq on Lakers only etc....
the rest of each team's roster is literally filled with "scrubbs"
This roster is very particular in that it is NOT designed for an ongoing franchise.
It is specifically designed for a 1 off NO INJURIES season.

This the way I play NBA 2K games and I made this roster for my own enjoyment. But as I have been roster editing and improving the single player sim experience for so long now. I cand and may as well share it with other like minded NBA gamers, who over the years most likely know my legit skills at editing rosters.

Unlike most other compilation rosters, I went right under the hood and painstakingly adjusted all attributes/ tendencies/ badges/ Advanced rotations/ coach profiles/ playbooks and assigned plays so that each team has good synergy regarding team basketball and the right players getting the right plays etc... and cpu controlled team/players to play the right way.

An example of some teams.

76ERS.

AI.
IGUODALA
COVINGTON
HARRIS
EMBIID

MAXEY
HAWKINS
THAD YOUNG
WEATHERSPOON
DALEMBERT

SUNS.

NASH
BOOKER
MARION
BARKLEY
STOUDEMIRE
KJ
MAJERLE
BRIDGES
DIAW
AYTON

SONICS (96 sonics)

PAYTON
ALLEN
LEWIS
KEMP
CAGE
MCMILLAN
BRENT BARRY
MCKIE
SCHREMPF
PERKINS

THUNDER

WESTBROOK
GILGEOUS ALEXANDER
DURANT
IBAKA
ADAMS
GIDDEY
DORT
JEFF GREEN
COLLISON
HOLMGREN

BULLS

ROSE
JORDAN
PIPPEN
RODMAN
NOAH
HINRICH
LAVINE
DENG
KUKOC
GIBSON

Etc...etc....you get the gist.

Reminder.
This roster is designed for a 1 off NO INJURY season. (or play now if that is your kind of thing)
You will get a legit sim experience as if this roster was a real thing with correct stats and more importantly good CPU gameplay where the players and teams play the way they should/would if their teams were constructed this way.

Enjoy. and let me know what you think.
After all the editing and testing. I am just looking forward to controlling every team in a season and play daily games..

One thing.
I advise when setting up the season to drop ASSIST rate to 35 for better stats. or just download my 2KSHARE scenario so the season is already setup.

Enjoy.

You won't make a regular roster, right?

You are an expert of the game. Around here for a long time. I am pretty sure, that you know very well what you are doing!

I would love to start an expansion project with my new Seattle Supersonics. But would need a Regularien roster for that.

No not this season.
I got annoyed having to contently keep up with the player movment and players ratings/tendency changes to keep up with the season.

I prefer rosters of the kind I made. Put the work in creating it then I dont have to do anything regarding player movement and ratings etc... and can actually enjoy playing the game. I am a long time NBA fan and NBA gamer so having all the great players since the 90s on one roster fighting it out for a title is more appealing to me. I get to really create something original and not mimic the regular season which so many other rosters do. I'm sure there are other great roster creators who have the regular season sim head sorted.

Re: How to get the the cpu to run more different plays?

I'm playing a season with my Sonics with my roster.
Great fun.

Great shooting team. Just loaded with shooters
Lewis and Allen coming off curls and screens for shots and the GP Kemp two man game. Not to mention Schrempf as my 6th man. Great stuff.
Terribly undersized though so got to play fast both on offense and defense.

Re: How to get the the cpu to run more different plays?

A couple of guys touched on these points but while ACE still drives everything (and no you shouldn't really turn ACE off) eliminating the gap in Touch tendency values helps. But another key thing beyond just making sure Play Types for each player are set to include plays that are actually in that team's book as mentioned earlier, try to vary the priority for your top players. I.E. don't have your top 3 scorers all have PnR Ball Handler and Iso as their #1 and #2.

As a user even when I'm running auto plays and seeing the same thing called I'll let it go, but then I'll branch out and basically manually create my own play with DHO's into a PnR then post up for example, then call for a cut or Floppy out of that post. Pass and Screen Away into a handoff PnR basically creating a weave is one of my favorite satisfying manual creations.

But try those adjustments for CPU. It still won't be perfect but it'll be better. Adjusting and adding to the playbooks obvs helps more.

Re: How to get the the cpu to run more different plays?

We're a few games past 2k20, but in that version, I used to turn ACE off and then I'd see the CPU going to town on all the plays I had set up for them, in their respective books.

I might even try this for 2k23, see what the results are.
