I only play offline, but I have 2 golden rules.

Go easy on the left stick. Its very easy to get out of position.

And use defensive contest with the right thumbstick. I avoid using the block button unless Im controlling Ibaka. Even then, I use it too much.

I have trouble with free throws online but it varies by game. It's a pretty new problem with this gen, at least for me.

I struggle with free throws from time to time to but with all these signature skills u can't make jump shooting this easy in a game and defend the paint to it is impossible unless your playing my team with all superstars users a scared to death of the free throw line but will launch close to 40 threes a game something not right about that

Offensively and defensively it depends on the team remember that. Also the players play style. You can have 5 ast and 0 turnovers with Kyrie Irving in the first but if you aren't shooting with him he'll go cold. It's the complete opposite for John Wall. Paul George seems to make more shots after he gets hot defensively. It's all rhythm based.

I'm starting to believe some instances affect the whole teams rhythm on both sides of the ball instead of just one player. Try locking down a player and see if that affects the whole team.

Are Freethrows rhythm based too?

That's a good question. They could be. It's probably a bit of both - rhythm and lag. There are times situations and fatigue do effect free throws IMO. It would make sense to have an effect.

I definitely believe it's important to get to the line when you can't get anything going.

Re: Tips/Settings to play good Defense?

How do you stop the CPU/Player from knocking down every open jumper no matter the player? On ps3 you could back off players with average jumps hooting abilities and take your percentages. Backing off of any guard/forward on this game to prevent the drive will cause them to go 9/10 every time. It's driving me insane!

1) Always play man (this isn't college)

2) Turn defensive assist to 0

3) Anticipate, don't react

4) Use hands up Defense on the right thumbstick

5) Rarely go for steals

6) Never press the block button unless you absolutely have to, leaving your feet is a no no

7) Always stay between your man and the basket

8) A good mixture of on ball and off ball is healthy depending on how your opponent plays

9) Don't take quick shots, take good shots so your team has time to get back, plus quick shots = your team tiring faster as they have to run to court more.

10) Take care of the ball Offensively

11) Make sure to avoid quickly passing the ball up court after successfully getting a steal
Implement those and I guarantee your defense will improve 10 fold

12) Utilize slip screens offensively to gain numbers in the paint, better to make them fight for offensive rebounds then have them get it quickly and get the easy fast outlet pass.

Just some basic stuff that helps my defense a lot.[/quote]
