This should be good cause Face-Up players should be more effective if they get a step. Big men shouldn't be able to check guards. Post moves should be more effective (not post shots). Just because a person is fast on offense, doesn't mean he should be just as fast on defense, especially if he doesn't defend well at all.

I am worried , if Speed is considered back & forth, while Quickness is side to side. The left-right cheeses will be even more effective till Patch 3 is release.

Trevor Booker on the other hand has one of the highest top end speeds in the league and that is why his rating reflects that.
Quoted from a different thread so there isn't confusion in this one as well

Unfortunately that means they didn't factor in 10 years of Howard's evolution, he's not exactly the crazy athlete he was as a teenager.
This is good to know, my biggest curiosity was what exactly they based the new speed ratings off of. It's going to stink if they don't adjust for age though.

And this is a different issue entirely, but the difference between real players and cpu-generated players will be even more stark now. Cpu-generated big men are going to seem so ridiculously slow.

They tell you in the roster post where the speed numbers come from. The cameras in the stadium now keep track of all of this.

Every player in the NBA had their Speed rating re-evaluated based on 2014-15 Player Tracking analytics which included player’s top sprint speed and timing.
I read this and was thankful for it, but it's still not that specific. We don't know how exactly they are coming up with the speed rating (not that we should expect to).

It's a formula based on the speed tracked.

The bigger question really is whether the formula/scale works within the game. The roster editor isn't really responsible for that, it's up to the game designers to have the ratings reflect performance.

English: a 55 speed rating by 2K scale may not reflect the players real life speed if speed rating doesn't scale cleany.

Ex: 50 2k-speed = 5 mph in game
IRL: player actually runs 7 mph

There are lots of variables with this, for example I believe in past 2k games a taller player would run faster than a shorter player with equal speed rating because their limbs are longer (which kinda ties into why bugs have had such low speed ratings for years).

I'm at a bar on mobile, pardons for any poor structure

I just meant that we don't have complete transparency (not that it should be expected). We don't know exactly what speed was tracked, or the formula. I wouldn't care but seeing such a large difference between the Morris twins has me at least curious.

It'll be interesting to see if speed is rebalanced around this new ratings system, either this year or next. As you said, the game was designed with certain values in mind.

Re: Ratings discussion thread (official roster)

With a major roster rating chang like this and 2k saying that they will be making other major changes to player ratings. It just makes me wonder if the timing of the roster updates so close to the patch has to do with the players playing more like there real life counter parts after the patch is released, or if some of the roster updates are to emliminate so of our complaints like not enough 3 and to many points in the paint. If they are slowing down gaurds they wont drive as much if they cant get around the big man thus shoot out shots.
