Is 2k starting to feel a little dated to anyone else?

Don't get me wrong, the game improves every year and i'm grateful for the work that the devs put in.

But the improvements are incremental and they've been using the same base foundation for like 10 years. The animations feel antiquated (particularly ball handling, passing, and running/movement); too familiar. The game feels old. It has plateaued.

I wish EA would lift their damn game. It'd be really interesting to have a game that feels completely different. I need a change. Someone!

I crave a game where you don't get "stuck in animations", but instead the animations react to movements on a more macro level, giving it a more lively feel. Like soccer games.

It's unlikely that 2k will revamp though. They've got a formula that works, and people buy the game. From here on out it seems like each new yearly release is just gonna be a roster update with some gameplay tweaks and some new gimmicky online modes. 2k needs some legit competition, to really inspire some innovative changes in the core gameplay

I share the same gripes with the game as you, overall unresponsiveness and slow animations are two of the biggest issues I have with it but I honestly don't think competition would change much at all. I believe 2K gives it all every year mostly. You might not like their formula but I don't think it's staying because of developpers laziness.

not to me, the only time it feels old to me is after playing it for like 6 straight months, and once the real NBA season winds down.

I agree with you. I hate saying that, because I think the devs really do care about their product, and they try to make the best game possible every year, but the game is getting kinda stale. Though I will say it's not an issue isolated to 2K alone. It's an issue with sports games in general. Yearly releases tend to do that sort of thing.

Only time when I felt that it went stale was 2k10. Man those gameplay vids where underwhelming...
