Re: Isn't it time for a physics engine?

Dribbling, shooting, passing, dunking is all animation based. KD, LeBron, etc don't look like themselves minus these animations and basketball games will always require them. They do need to incorporate a better way to present stop, cut, acceleration animations because I think it's a tad bit exaggerated for most players in the time it takes to turn around, etc.

I agree with 24th on tweaking the interaction system. I think the interaction/stumble/collision animations take too long to play out and that should be tweaked as well.

No.

Ask this question again in 10 years.

I think it's possible they are working on a physics engine behind the scenes. It's not something they're gonna implement in one year.

People really just want realistic interactions and outcomes....that's why a game that had some of the heaviest two man animations weve ever seen is still praised today (NBA 2K11) That's the easiest way to play things out...and it's consistent.

It's been a struggle transitioning from that....I feel like 2K14 broke ground and then we took steps back

I think most people (including myself) don't really know what is a physics engine and what it does exactly in the first place. It sounds like it's something I want though lol.

A "physics" engine sounds extremely tough to implement in a video game with a sport that decides things literally by the centimeter.

Though if a game like Forza can implement physics just fine, it's certainly possible.

I just want a 2k that isn't so freakin animation based. Animations cause nothing but bailout scenarios for bad online players.

Physics engine (in sports games) is engine that counts person X's velocity, height, weight and movement against person Y's velocity, height, weight and movement. It's implemented pretty damn good in UFC2 as shown in this trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITteOdFBu5I

In 2K16 i encountered numerous time big men falling in paint because likes of Irving, I.Thomas, Rose, Paul run into them. Not only that layup collisions are really messed up as well as dunking contact that is based purely on player rating rather than situation and some other factors.

Good implementation of physics engine would result in such dunks to be possible:

Just some examples how dunking can be altered by collision.

I never stated that it would fix everything all I said is that it should help with suction and fluidity of the players. Obviously there's more to fixing 2K than just a physics engine.
