Why did you stop playing 2K17?

Obviously this is aimed at those who found something in the game that caused them to stop playing NBA 2K17 once and for all.

The "game breaker" if you will.

Mine was when I discovered an offensive exploit against the AI pick and roll defense. Keep in mind, I don't hunt for exploits. In fact I wish I hadn't found it. But when I find something that works, my hope is that it's eventually stopped and I have to find something else. This didn't happen for the following exploit.

I'd call for a pick and roll at the top. I'd do it with all team mates until I find the match up that leads to my ball handler getting double teamed (hopefully you guys can picture it). Once the double team takes place, I'd keep a stationary dribble with my ball handler and wait for the roll to happen.

Once this happens, you time the pass so your roller catches and dunks/lays the ball up in stride. No weak side help comes. It's 2 points pretty much automatic.

Now no matter who you're playing against, this shouldn't happen in an NBA game more than 2 plays in a row IMO.

OKC at Orlando - 22 with Roberson in 1st quarter on 11/11 FG.

LAL at SAC - 57 with Ingram in 1st half.

Not sure how this is in the game, what's going on with the PnR help defense but I'm hoping to god it doesn't exist in 2K18. I will try it when I get it and if it's still an issue, I will not play it.

So yeah..... was enjoying a season until I found this and now I don't play 2K17 at all.

    Such a shame.

And the other (smaller) one was the AI subbing. I had AI big men fouling out in the 3rd quarter because they're re-inserting bigs in foul trouble mindlessly.

Interested to hear anyone else's and I'm hopeful 2K are equally interested in the name of improvement.

Slow movements, horrible ball handling mechanics, steal-spammers, faulty progression in myleague, bad sim stats in myleague and mygm, boring and cringey story mode in mycareer

Many reasons but I still play for Park and Pro Am mostly. Those have their own problems but it's fun to play if you have friends who also play

Re: Why did you stop playing 2K17?

I'd say there were a few reasons for me personally.
      But they all somewhat intertwine.

      1. The lack of responsiveness. Pressing a button and being stuck in limbo wondering what is going to happen. Pass to an open teammate, and the ball arrives 2 seconds too late. Click on a player to rotate him to help, and he is stuck in quicksand.

      2. Defense. There are numerous defensive issues. The CPU warping to stay in front of you, the horrendous AI, the lack of undeflectable passes vs the CPU, the lack of off ball contact.

      3. Passing. The slow passes, the floaty passes, the long drawn out animations that take place when everyone knows it's a pass. The spamming of passes inside, outside, etc.

      4. Draft classes. Auto generations are awful and making draft classes in recent years have taken far too much time, even with quick edit.

If I had to narrow it down it was definitely the responsiveness that drove me away and made me go back to last gen. Hopefully 18 addresses these issues

Responsiveness and control killed 2k17 for me I never felt like I had complete control of my player they added so many unnecessary animations to help the lack of Cpu defense that it killed the entire experience. Then I popped in 2k16 and it felt like a breath of fresh air compared to 2k17 and I knew it was over for me and 2k17.

It is impossible to play consistent defense in this game.
Gameplay wise, 2k17 is much worse than 2k13, for example.
          I quit it months ago.

That slow turn around for defense really kills the game for me. You can see what the offensive player is going to do but when you try to get there you're stuck in a backpeddle animation.

That fake coach is also a gamekiller for me....I just hate that he pops up when playing quick games. I just turn off the game...

Like you I only play Park with my brothers and few friends that still play....

I still play but only once Every other week or so.

              For me ...

              1. The defense was lame this year . Too much sliding , slow reactions , ineffective contesting shots in the paint , etc ...

              2. Over Paint passing success in crowded areas
              3. Ball always going back to offense . I literally watch the Ball warp back to the offense .
              4. Inaccurate and inconsistent foul call and animations .
              5. Too much ball clipping when guarding dribble gods

All those things took the fun out the game for me . It's so deflating to even play this game. I try not to take it too serious and just have fun . But defense is my favorite part of basketball . Maybe 2k should hire a defensive Guru

All of this, plus managing 30 team control in MyLeague to take over all FA decisions year round for all teams took as much time as creating the draft classes (which as you say takes a ton of time). Lack of variety in player models also got me bored. Oh and I kept having to make up for the lack of balance in progression and training functions to manually go through the league every year to keep a good talent distribution, from OVR 90+ down to high 60's.

It just tired me out. It became a lot of work to try to have some play. Then when gameplay was so flawed, defensive settings never working or even explained. . . it just became not fun.

In the end it was not one thing that did it. It was just. . . everything piling up.

This was so close the being it for me also. Would be very deflated to see it back in 2K18.

I play TV camera. So when the AI would make the pass to something off screen, I just knew I was caught by the slow back peddle. Very frustrating - especially at key crunch time parts of the game.

Re: Why did you stop playing 2K17?

From a mycareer perspective; the spacing is absolutely appalling unless you're a point guard or have OCC where you can spread them out manually, then it's painful and you can regularly see 8 players under the rim at one time for zero reason. As a SG I can call a quick iso to try and get some space and I find the first thing that happens is one of my team mates will mostly just run over towards me killing the whole purpose of me trying to create the space, but when the cpu calls an iso (end of quarters), then they all line up perfectly to the sides and away from the ball handler.

The physicality is appalling and already confirmed to return, and it also doesn't make any sense in relation to attributes where myplayer gets pushed around by any player that wants to regardless of strength attributes, size, or weight.

The fact the cpu runs 3 sets at most; the pass it around and pass in to the post where any cpu player has the post game of Jordan, the stand there and wait for a myplayer team mate to wonder off leaving an uncontested layup/dunk, or just pass it into the paint anyway knowing that the myplayer team mate will often just ignore the ball and just take up horrendous positions.

The distinct lack of anything resembling real fun.

The cpu defensive sliding and bumping.

Archetypes have been the worst thing introduced into career mode since I've been playing the game, and are so limiting they just suck the enjoyment out. Knowing these are only for e-sports just makes it even worse.

the constant practice grind routine and loading screen combination have just been hell this year.

                    The constant stepbacks.

The way everything is so animation heavy. You can go up to get a rebound, but the game won't let you do that; it makes you wait until the cpu is already turning and running with the ball before you then go up for the rebound 3/4 seconds after you pressed the button.

The telekinetic powers that the cpu has to always know where the ball will be at any moment resulting in ridiculous turnovers. 2k desperately needs to move away from mapping the cpu actions based on human controller input, or at least program in a delay of 2/3 seconds as reaction time, and if you do get to the ball first, so what? The cpu will just suck it right through your body anyway if it wants to.

And from a park perspective; I've loved playing park in past versions, but this years is so boring just watching playmakers spam constantly till they can just use their speed to go round people. It's a horrible gaming experience when you mix it in with the screens.

The game shouldn't have an archetype that is so much faster than the rest because it makes no sense, especially when little PG's can chasedown slashers because everything in this game is about speed.

I don't really know what 2k were trying to achieve with this game, and I can only hope it's a bridge to a 2k18 they wanted to release in 17, but everything in it is just messy, and massively lacking in fun. A lot of these issues are legacy related and we're in year 5 on current gen technology now and I really want to see these things cleaned up now, it's just not really right that we're still fighting last gen issues.

On the plus side, the barber shop scenes in mycareer have been the best since a story mode was introduced.

I'm also hopeful that ACE will eventually help but I think that's a couple of years away as things stand, but in the meantime 2k, this game is nothing close to sim and takes itself way too seriously for what it delivers, so how about letting us have some fun with it again in the meantime?

Re: Why did you stop playing 2K17?

Haven't stopped but strongly considering it for a few reasons

I stopped playing myleague altogether (my favorite mode easily) because of the reasons already mentioned. Poor draft class generation, team building AI, seemingly random progression and regression, and wonky sim results. There's a ton to the mode I love but the foundation of the mode is, tbh, terrible. What's worse is that these problems have existed for years.

Gameplay wise the inside passing success is hair pulling. It's a combination of a couple things. First, the ease of successfully completing an already difficult pass (I'm talking about guys with no passing abilities not even facing their target) to someone running into a crowd. Second, it's defenders backpeddling, shifting and not being able to contain or use proper angles on their man. Add in poor defensive AI (one issue I never hear about are bigs adamant on sticking to their nonshooting assignment around the 3pt arc instead of defending the rim) and I'm about to give up 2k.

                          I play online, exclusively.

The ease of passing into the paint, Dunk Spam, Long passes and no penalty for bad Block/Steal timing (or for missed steals and blocks) killed PVP gameplay.
