Yea it’s crazy man I hope we get a big overall because it’s annoying getting the open court just to see him lay it up knowing he can put it down and even put it down on someone

Rashidi, how many more teams do you still have to do?

With Quick Edit I'm more or less processing the most efficient ways to attack the roster. Some days I'll focus down a team, others I might focus down an attribute. The stats that 2K already updates regularly are pretty easy to adjust by just looking a team's page on Basketball-Reference.

Today reminded me that Dunk ratings in this game are more or less a joke (and have been for the last 15 years), so I'll probably focus those down in the coming days.

Re: NBA 2K18 Roster Update Details, Badges Adjusted Across The League (12-5)

Dunk ratings (Position Average)

Driving, Standing, Contact
PG: 50-29-32
SG: 65-37-38
SF: 68-49-42
PF: 70-65-45
C: 65-79-44

When you factor in how many PGs can't dunk, it seems like 65 is the standard Driving Dunk rating, regardless of position. -30 and you get 35, which is the absolute minimum rating for anybody that dunks. +30 and you get 95, which is basically top of the scale.

Contact Dunk (aka the Shaq rating) is intended to be low across the board, with bigs averaging only 45 and wings/guards about 40. In fact only a small handful of players even rate > 65.
DeAndre Jordan (96), Blake Griffin (90), Giannis Antetokounmpo (75), Wayne Selden Jr (70), Larry Nance Jr (70), Andre Drummond (70)
Even when you check Historic teams there are (surprisingly) very few who break the threshold (although this is predictably not the case with the All-Time teams).

Standing Dunk is effectively set on a 15-point sliding scale by position. 35 for guards, 50 for SFs, 65 for PFs, 80 for Cs. Standing Dunk rating operates as like a 2nd dunk rating for bigs, triggering animations without needing a running start. This helps to distinguish bigs from guards as they get dunks in very different ways.

Dunk Stats (2017)
John Wall: 44 dunks (3.1% of FGA)
Iman Shumpert: 11 dunks (3.1%)
Pau Gasol: 16 dunks (2.6%)
Cristiano Felicio: 46 dunks (22.1%)

Ratings
Wall: 85-25-35
Shumpert: 77-40-40
Gasol: 58-80-30
Felicio: 78-85-35

Gasol gets practically as many dunks as John Wall but they obviously aren't the same caliber. In essence, Standing Dunk allows us to account for the statistical noise that bigs generate.

What is an average dunker anyway?

Team Dunks per year (% of FGA)
2018: 114 (5.0%)
2017: 322 (5.1%)
2016: 304 (4.8%)
2015: 219 (4.7%)
2014: 301 (4.8%)
2013: 318 (5.2%)
2012: 244 (5.0%)

5% appears to be pretty standard

TLDR Scale building (as I didn't really intend to write a full-blown article)
PG: 65-35-35
SG: 65-35-40
SF: 65-50-40
PF: 65-65-45
C: 65-80-45

Re: NBA 2K18 Roster Update Details, Badges Adjusted Across The League (12-5)

To avoid confusion. The league may average Dunks on 5.0% of their possessions, and 65 Driving Dunk might be the average Dunk rating but this does NOT mean 5.0% = 65 Driving Dunk. As stated most dunks are performed by bigs and consequently mostly Standing Dunks.

Chicago Bulls Dunk Ratings and Stats
2017 data unless specified

PG
Grant: 69-25-26 (3 dunks, 1.0%)
Dunn: 55-40-35 (7 dunks, 2.9%)
Payne: 25-25-25 (1 dunk, 0.2%) - Career stats

Dunn has dunked 9 times this year (to Grant's zero) so it's pretty clear he's the better dunker. Driving Dunk matters most here because there isn't much Standing/Contact variance at this position.

Payne recorded a dunk in his rookie year. He's 25 across the board. Go figure.

SG
Nwaba: 80-50-55 (18 dunks, 23.5%)
LaVine: 97-60-35 (36 dunks, 5.1%)
Holiday: 73-60-30 (24 dunks, 4.8%)
Blakeney: 65-25-45 (1 dunk, 1.3%) - 2018 stats

Nwaba played 397 minutes last season. For context, it took LaVine 1749 minutes to get double that. Now compare any of the Bulls SGs to their PFs for a good laugh. They all have especially high Standing Dunk ratings, which I'm not sure is deserved (I'd imagine Nwaba certainly shouldn't be rated lower than Holiday).

SF
Zipser: 78-55-40 (4 dunks, 1.8%)
Pondexter: 65-40-40 (3 dunks, 7.0%) - 2018 Stats
Valentine: 35-40-40 (0 dunks in 288 FGA)

Compare Zipser to the guards. It's impossible to justify him ranking 3rd on the team in Driving Dunk.

PF
Mirotic: 65-70-35 (16 dunks, 2.6%)
Markkanen: 40-60-35 (14 dunks, 5.1%) - 2018 Stats
Portis: 40-50-30 (16 dunks, 4.3%)

Mirotic is the worst dunker of the bunch but has the best ratings by far. Go figure!

C
Felicio: 78-85-35 (46 dunks, 22.1%)
Lopez: 60-75-45 (26 dunks, 4.0%)

The Bulls frontcourt is not athletic in the slightest.

Lopez has much better dunk ratings than Portis (+20, +25, +15) but shouldn't really be regarded as such. As I've pointed out elsewhere, most dunk ratings are years old. Once upon a time Lopez was a much better finisher (when he was younger, before he signed his big contract, which is probably the last time his rating got edited).

Also why would you use AVERAGE speed when the rating is for MAXIMUM speed?
