I'll say this again. EA have actually done story modes in sports games correctly by making them short tight narratives that are more like interactive movies in conjunction with a mode that gives you total freedom like Fight Night and FIFA.

2k are trying to give the players freedom to design their character and traits and play as many games as they want all while going through a forced narrative that randomly shows up every few milestones, time or certain number of games. It's so messy and awkward.

If 2k are so insistent on putting a story in every game going forward then have MyCareer be a completely linear experience that lasts a dozen or so hours and then have MyPlayer be the traditional experience from last gen we all know and love.

I will say that the writing and cinematography from the trailer looks much, much better than years past but we're still being served the same dish with slightly different ingredients.

I dont thinkt thats a sliders menu its more like you can select the height of your player and this bars shows you what will be inscreased or decreased based on what height you choose.

Bigs can cover to much ground on defense(they are too fast)

Late contest on laups matter too much.

Random blocks doing pumpfakes.

Leaning shots for guys who have catch and shoot badge should be removed.

How you figure that you can adjust those sliders? And it just not another UI for the "cap breakers"

Like everyone, I'd love to have a career mode where I have the freedom offline to create the player I want skill wise, choose his path whether it be undrafted longshot or top pick, and keep the skill caps and restrictions for a separate online park/neighborhood mode.

However honestly, we all just need to accept that this is the way theyre going. What I do like is that the story has a much more serious tone than the last two but not overly dramatic. It seems like a good basketball story, and that's what it should be. As much as I hate being restricted to only being good at 2 things, at least the story fits and doesnt pretend Im the next LeBron.

Ive only played one MyCareer since it became a thing in 2k, this might be the 2nd. At least for the story because my hopes arent that high that the MyCareer gameplay will be any better than its been.

I don't think that's what's going on there. I think that's basically just the same ratings screen we had last year when we chose our archetype and whatnot. It seems that they've simply made it so your contested/open shooting attributes will be identical.

I highly doubt that they're forcing you to move a slider to determine if you want to be able to rebound on the offensive end or the defensive end and the idea that they're sliders doesn't really make sense for any of the other ratings besides the couple that have multiple ratings within them.

Edit: See this tweet. This is all I think it is personally.

I gotcha. I just wonder if they were to scrap the story mode in the future and just do traditional my career would it be missed? To me it's a cool option, the more modes and options the better, but it's not must play and if it was removed it wouldn't bother me one bit. There are plenty of games each year that scratch that "single player story" itch. It just seems like a lot of time and money to commit to a mode (the story portion of my career that is)) that might not appeal to a large portion of the audience

That's a plus then. This is pure speculation obviously, but that would mean based on your build that your ability to hit contested or open shots will increase or decrease dramatically.
