'86 Celtics vs the '96 Bulls

The Bulls got off to a hot start and an early 12-2 lead, forcing turnovers and going on transition. Bird then got started with a three, and a layup in transition, and stayed hot, keeping the Celtics in the game. Jordan, however, also found his touch and continued to torch them in the period. The Celtics fall behind by only 2 after one.

Pippen took charge in the second quarter and kept the Bulls comfortably ahead. This included a nasty poster dunk on Larry Legend himself off the fastbreak.

Pippen had 20 pts at the half, to counter 20 pts from Larry Bird. Bulls lead 61-54 going into the half.

At the third, the Celtics were able to pull ahead with good inside and outside play. Dennis Johnson was connecting from medium range scoring 13 pts in the 3rd, while Parish got inside scoring position. Midway, Jordan got to work and led the Bulls back in the lead. THe Bulls lead by 2 going in to the fourth.

The start of the fourth quarter was all about Steve Kerr and Scottie Pippen. Kerr opened the quarter with a 3, and Pippen kept attacking Bird on offense. They go up by as much as 12. The Celtics, however, fight back, starting with a 5 consecutive points from Robert Parish, from a 3 point-play and a putback jam. Michael Jordan then came back from the bench and kept them at bay. Bird and Ainge tried to keep them in the game, cutting the lead into 4 with just a minute to go. But Jordan scored again on the next play to keep them ahead for good.

Bulls win, 121-112.

Jordan was POG with 47 pts, 8 assts, 4 stls, 1 block. Pippen added 29, 7 assts and 5 stls. Rodman had 15 rebs with 5 assts.

Larry Bird had a solid game with 34 pts, 8 rebs, 7 assts. Parish had 18 pts and 7 rebs. Dennis Johnson 15 pts and 10 assts.

The Knicks try to make this a series by winning their first home game.

The Knicks had a great chance here and were up by 8 with 6 minutes left in the game. But the Bulls would hold the Knicks to 6 pts the rest of the way, going on a 21-6 run and win by 7.

Jordan was POG with 33 pts, 6 rebs, 10 assts and 2 stls. Pippen and Kukic added 21 and 14 respectively. The Knicks had 4 players in double figures lead by Walt Frazier who finished with 20 pts 4 assts, 3 stls. WIllis Reed had 18-8.

Down 0-3, the Knicks never really recovered and the Bulls go on to win Game 4 to sweep the series and go to round 2 where they will face the '97 Miami Heat.

The Miami Heat always prove to be a tough team for Jordan's Bulls over the years. Its because of their defensive intensity and fighting attitude, and it was on display in this one.





Heat and Bulls start a tightly contested affair, and with Tim Hardaway and Alonzo Mourning hitting their stride, the Heat come out on top by 4 after the first half. Mourning was strong on the offensive boards, and led the way for the Heat inside with 11 pts and 10 rebs at the half. Jordan struggled, with Pippen picking up the slack scoring 19 first half points.





Mourning continued his solid play in the 3rd, but the Bulls bench stepped up as their starters took a rest later in the quarter. Bulls grabbed the lead after a 3pt play from Steve Kerr. Bulls come back on top after the third, 84-82.





The Bulls jumped fast on the Heat in the fourth, and managed to keep the Heat at bay, leading by 10 with 5 minutes to go. But the Heat displayed their toughness and determination here, slowly chomped away at the lead, led by Majerle and Mashburn. The Bulls were leading by 2 with 5 secs to go. But a spectacular alley-oop play from Hardaway to Majerle on the inbounding pass tied the game and the game went to overtime.

THis was a great tough game who went to the team with enough grit and execution in the end.

Jordan refuses the lose!

Bulls try to even the series here after losing Game 1 at home.


Jordan set the tone and came out shooting, was missing early, but scored 10 straight points to end the quarter. Bulls up 30-24 after one. In the second quarter, the Heat hung tough and managed to keep within striking distance. Majerle, Hardaway and Mashburn all attacked the basket, made some big shots, and actually tied the game with 4 mins to go. They would end the half with the Heat trailing the Bulls just by 2.





Jordan had 22 pts at the half, seemingly determined to win this game and avoid going down 0-2.





In the 3rd quarter, the Bulls looked to stay in command, growing their lead to double digits. The Heat would not go away easy and went on a 20-8 run late to trim the deficit to 1 going into the fourth quarter.





In the 4th quarter, Scottie Pippen started aggressive, taking over the offense as Jordan took his usual rest at the start of the quarter. He was hot early, but the Heat just would not go away, even tying the game halfway thru. It was remained close, and was just 3 point game for the Bulls with less than 2 mintues left. Jordan would not be denied however, scoring the next basket for a 5 pt cushion to lead the Bulls to victory.








Jordan was player of the game, coming up huge with 48 pts, 4 rebs, 9 assts, 5 stls and 1 blk. Pippen added 22, Harper 12. Rodman had 13 rebs, with 5 stls and 1 blk. The heat had 6 players in double figures, led by Hardaway with 17 pts and 11 assts. Mourning struggled in this game, had 14 pts, 11 rebs.
