Re: Dev video: L stick dribbling and dribble styles

Here's the two Harden stepbacks just to show it off real quick.

1. Again this is all left stick until I want to do the stepback. With the ball in my right hand at the end, I press turbo and then away from the hoop on the right stick.

2. The second clip is a standard jab step with the right stick, then just hold turbo with ball in the left hand and press away from hoop on right stick to get the more common stepback.

SmirkinDirk (or any Doncic stan):

do you have video of the fake Luka stepback from NBA? I feel like I know Luka pretty well, but my thing with him was more the distance he covers on his stepback jumpers, I'm not sure of the fake stepback jumper highlight, or maybe I just know it by another name?

Nice videos Chase.

I've been wondering about this fake Luka stepback aswell. I watched every minute of him play last year and don't remember any such move. Like you, I remember his move as the quickness and distance covered by his stepback chained into a 3 pt attempt. I don't think any of the stepback animations capture this, only the Harden dribble style does.

And if I give him that, he turns into a first step god, which he is not.

Re: Dev Video: L Stick Dribbling And Dribble Styles

So how does turbo help with the left stick?

In short, it does open up another whole bushel of moves. Here are a couple basic ones just to understand that you still don't need to "hold" turbo down, but instead just tap it and initiate another portion of creation.

Here's Kemba doing:

-Size-up extended hesitation (hold RT, flick right stick ball side with left stick neutral.)
-Then I release the right stick, and I just use the left stick (while still holding turbo)
-And I move the left stick up and right ball side to do a quick snap dribble
-Or I move the left stick to the other side of my body -- away from the ball -- and up and pull off a Shammgod.

(To be clear, this is specific to the Kemba package. You will not get the Shammgods and these quick snaps with someone even like Fox. You'll get different moves here. For example, Fox will get a hard crossover instead of a Shammgod from this same movement.)

This funnels into something else where, again, you can set them up with:

-A right stick extended hesitation to one side while holding turbo (same as the first video)
-Then release the right stick and turbo, and you can just use the left stick and push it towards the rim to explode with a little through the legs move.
-I never press turbo again after the initial hesitation, but after the through the legs, you could tap turbo again if you want for a little more oomph.

Timing is imperative here though even if just using the left stick. You need to let that dribble hang an extra second or you won't get something like that through the legs move, instead you just get a more stall dribble into drive, like so:

Now, let's say you do any of those and you attack and get to the FT line, again, just letting go of the left stick will put you some of the time into a stutter step animation with a guy like Kemba. From here, you can do any number of things, I just choose to chain a quick 1-2 right stick combo in and shoot.

Yeah I mean Luka doesn't need the Harden stepback, he needs his own because he gets way deeper on the initial stepback as he goes almost full squat, and then uses that to get that extra little more depth on the stepback.

I was thinking the "fake" stepback could be how he sometimes does the stepback then explodes back out of it, and while I can do that, I didn't notice a specific animation that looked like his while labbing so far. Someone needs to tweet at Mike Wang methinks to get the visual he's talking about since I assume it was something lost in translation.

He's really fast, but in just quickly labbing it, I would say he's not one-to-one unique. He's in the same mold of Simmons and Russ and LeBron. So, like, he's awesome but he doesn't do like the infamous one dribble from halfcourt to dunk like here:

Which makes sense because balance-wise that would probably be a mess to deal with if he did that often. But he does use fewer dribbles going coast to coast than say someone like Steph in this game.

Fake stepback - if I go by the definition of the term, I would assume it's just a stepback move (single, not double) and with the ball slightly above the hip level and pause it (faking to go up on a shooting motion to draw the defender in), then blow by the defender. I saw a lot of that in 19 by the cpu and I was literally faked by the cpu.

Again, I'm not exactly sure if this is what it meant.
