NBA 2K9 Insider needs to give Gallinari the shamgod move PROOF inside

It's an uncommon move that I can't recall anyone using in a game situation over the past few years (can't find anything aside from Shammgod himself and Gallinari on YouTube either). In 2K9, it replaces the double-cross, a common move that 90% of the league actually uses at some point. I don't like that.

And giving that move (which is basically unstoppable due to the forward momentum and quick side-step involved) to a guy who did it once in Summer League and hasn't even played a regular season game in his pro career seems a bit uh.. hurried? Giving it to Rose and CP3 when they haven't done it IRL is bad enough -- at least they have the handles for it and it's a move that a top-flight PG would do.

I'm not talking about who and who not to give it to. But it seems like you'd rather call for something that is user controlled to become contextual when people have been clamoring for more control all year. It's almost like the theme song of 2k9.

I agree it shouldn't replace the double cross.

Agreed it annoys me that CP and Rose have and it used so often over a double cross it should be a special typed move that u dont see often

Imagine if we still had 2K8's controls... you could add these special handles-intensive moves to the RT + LT + command tier while leaving the double-cross as RT + command. But NOOOOO, 2K had to trash a great control system and give us one less options where they have to replace common moves in the package with ridiculous ones that should be special and triggered some other way.

Agh, I'll never forgive them for taking away my ball-hand commands on LS. Never. Ruined the game for me. Can't stand still and do a cross-over on command (the "stand and dribble" animations take over and you lose control completely).. they took SO much control away from the user this year.

And yeah Pared, with this year's controls, I'd say that this should be a context-sensitive move simply because it's stupid to lose the double-cross. This move could've been put in the RT + LT + cross command slot I guess, but that's some hidden move that's not even mentioned on the official move list. It's a real hesitation cross (not that uncontrollable one that you trigger by tapping RT then move LS) and you trigger it with RT + LT and the 45-degree crossover motion -- but only certain guys have a move available there. So random...

You guys are both right, from a certain perspective.

The move should be context sensitive, like the double team split dribble(which is beautiful, nice job 2k). There should be a special combination of player movement and defensive spacing that gives you the different crossover animation.

OR

They could go with what I was talking about before, and allow us to control the timing of the moves. Nothing extreme, just let me do a slow cross, then a fast cross with the double cross. Casual players would never even have to know that it's in the game. So if you want to pull off the Shammgod, you have to do it with the proper timing. Like a "just input" in Soul Calibur. For all other moves, this would reward players with patience and timing, and bring real deception into the ball handle game.

Or they can fix the damn controls and change them back to 2K8 style and we'd have 8+ move commands vacant. But that would be too easy.

This I agree with. I just think asking for things to continue to become contextual is just echoing what some now feel is a problem with the series.

We will see many less contextual things as time goes one in certain areas with this series. Bank on it.

I would prefer they go the timing route, but I think there is a "good" contextual scenario and a "bad" one. In the good context, you're really talking about consistency. For instance, if you got the Shammgod only when you had a double cross with forward momentum towards your strong hand, they wouldn't do it all the time.

So it's not about taking control out of the user's hands as much as it is giving different isomotion animations for different situations. This way an in&out standing still isn't the same as an in&out running at full speed. You take special, awesome moves like the shammgod, and you limit the scenarios in which they can occur.
