This is a letter to the editor about improvments for 2k11

I think 2k10 is a good game despite the minor and major set backs but for next year here’s something to think about.

Add an influence rating ex. a lottery pick may have some influence on his team pending that he’s not on a team like the Lakers with Kobe Bryant or something like that. top performers for the month should have a boosted influence rating. influence can be used to demand that a player of that persons choosing can be traded or a certain player can be drafted or signed depending on the amount of influence that the player demanding the trade has. You should also be able to demand a trade for your self but it result in a big drop in your morale. Taking care of a high influence players greatly improves morale and team chemistry.

MOST IMPORTANTLY a coach should be able to established a last second shot option during crunch time for example you have dwight howard and rashard lewis but your down by 3 with 5 seconds left the first last second shot option would be lewis even though normally dwight is the first option. And of course certain players feel they need to be at least a 1 2 or 3 scoring option so managing that affects moral and chemistry

In My Player Mode (assuming you fixed the 10 second sub problem) when you come of the bench you should get a overlay of the current game situation and who the scoring options are. This should create a situation where if you are a pf rated 49 ovr and you come in a game with Kobe shaq and lebron on your team and your jacking up more shots than both of them if its not a wide open shot its bad shot selection but in reverse if you are delivering passes to the options it holds more weight

GM's should have a goal for there franchise like winning or money or rebuilding
ex Winning should be self explanatory making the playoffs championships etc then money you can achieve two ways one you can cut back on player salaries and other expenses or you can build a team that has a lot of highlight play ability dunks steals fast breaks etc the more highlight capability your team has the more popular your team becomes or by winning championships. Rebuilding if a team has been down a number of years and it just wants to improve overall rating but after that goal has been accomplished then the GM should want to either win or get money for the franchise. If a coach fails to meet this criteria set by the GM he will be fired and replaced some GMs should have a shorter fuse than others ALONG WITH THAT each city should have certain players that they want to see drafted or players on there team they are loyal too ex. Allen Iverson in Philly each player should have a fan support rating that should be determined by morale, production, length of time with that team, home state and emotion If the player has lost fan support (doesn’t count if he never had support to begin with only if he lost support) he will be more likely to be traded or released or sent to the d-league if applicable it the TEAM LOST FAN SUPPORT and have a reasonable amount of funds they can chose to relocate the franchise after the end of the season design the jerseys and team name and start in a new arena in a new thirsty NBA City but it should take time to build up enough funds to do so and all this should translate into my player mode as well

Coaches should have certain player type tendencies when it comes to drafting a key rating they look for example three point ability defense ability or overseas preference or even top 25 ranked school preferences these factors will help the coach draft trade or call up players that fit into his system ex Greg Popavic

all European players scouted should come from looking at the euro league stats and team polls during the season the best of the best in Europe should combine into a 6 team tourney like the Olympics ever 4 years the same factors that lead to experience points during the nba season lead to the experience points in the euro league season so euro league players come with a little more experience as rookies (if they have earned it) Speaking of rookies they should have various random traits along with there specific play types example every 6th face up power forward should have 3point ability or passing something uncommon to typical power forwards ex every 9th point guard strength or post up ability or rebounding don’t make it so predictable look at barginia or Nowitzki billups or Sean Livingston

ALSO you shouldn’t have to earn points to determine the emotion of your character whether he’s easy going or easily upset and moody that should be your choice from the jump

A leadership rating should also be added to the game that can turn around team chemistry entirely if there are one to two clear cut leaders on the team any more than two and your overall leadership should suffer (like if three or more players are rated above 90% in leadership) unless you can convince one leader to supplement his leadership role but depending on there attitude a diminished leadership role may have a bad effect on his morale besides how everyone is already rated in the nba at leadership rookies should come in with minimal leadership skills but point guards tend to have more than the average rookie but there should always be a rookie or to that’s ready to come in and lead. With that being said there is a way that everyone on a team can gain leadership points ex any game that is decided by 3 or less points should result in a boost in experience points making an all star team being named player of the week or month USA basketball invite making the playoffs or winning a championship can all result in slight boost in experience points until the experience meter is full and results in leadership points then the experience meter resets but you don't lose your current experience level a benefit of experience is better awareness improved morale for all teammates better end of the game decision making better overall crunch time performance ALONG WITH LEADERSHIP there should be a function of the role of mentor of the bench (i know there is one but it should have this effect) if you have a player with enough experience at a certain position all other players at his position that still have potential should develop 70% to 75% more rapidly ex. Chauncey Billups teaching Ty Lawson the more experience and the more potential the players have the greater the effect

Okay finally add some sort of ESPN like show at the end of every week highlighting the game scores and CRITICAL stats ex the winner shot 60% in field goals, high scores, surprises, close finishes, injuries, transactions, rumors, rookie watch, all-star votes and play off positions DO NOT MAKE THE HIGHLIGHTS REPEATATIVE AS THEY WHERE IN COLLEGE HOOPS 08 AND MAKE SURE THAT THE HIGHLIGHTS ACTUALLY REPRESENT WHAT THE PLAYERS WOULD REALLY DO EX DONT SHOW TYRONE LUE DUNKING ON TWO PEOPLE BECAUSE HE HAD THE GAME HIGH IN POINTS AND MIX IT UP DONT SHOW ALL THE SAME CATEGORIES EVERYTIME

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.
