Re: Am I playing the same game you are?

I've seen a lot of people complain about having to adjust with sliders ("Why should I have to??!!!"), but they don't understand, we're all different. Not everybody has the same skill level and experience (or care as much).

Me? I'm just a dude. A grown man Dad with a son in college. I'm not a twitch guy who's got crazy stick skills, so I adjust the game accordingly and have fun.

If someone wants to bad enough, they'll dig deep to find anything wrong with this they can and whine about it. Some people are just like that. But if you look at the big picture, this is a great game. Not perfect, but in my opinion the best basketball game ever.

I agree with the OP but this post was funny as hell.

This year, however, seems to be over-the-top in the amount of negative threads and posts. This phenomenon has led to this question: Are we playing the same game?

Maybe there are differences between PC (my platform), 360, and PS3. Maybe it's that I only play against people that I know when I don't play the CPU. Maybe it's that I am not looking for "perfection". Maybe it's that I am not obsessed with HOF mode and trying to "beat the game". Maybe it's that I want a fun, challenging game that at least approaches realism. Maybe it's that I can use my imagination when I play to add to the experience. Maybe it's that I don't hunt out and focus on flaws.

Maybe it's the above things or something else. What I know is that I've been playing on Pro mode with custom sliders that I have been thinking about posting, and I've been having a blast. The stats I get are within the realm of realism. There are hot streaks and cold streaks. The games I'm supposed to win, I usually win. The games I'm supposed to lose, I usually lose.

The thing is, I never know what's going to happen and every game is fun. I haven't played a scripted game yet. I haven't played a game yet where I felt like I didn't have a chance to win or that I was guaranteed a win. When I win I pay attention to what I did right and when I lose I accept responsibility for the mistakes I made and try to learn from them. I've never, in over 20 years of video game experience, played a basketball game that was as close to real-life as this one.

The animations, AI, fast break, ball movement, and differences between each individual and team on the game is amazing. The depth of the editable features is insane. I can take this game and play it with out of the box rosters for a fun experience or I can edit the rosters to my liking for a realistic experience. Even with original rosters, as I've learned the nuances of the game, I've gotten games that strongly resembled real-life basketball.

2K, if you are reading this, keep up the outstanding work. There are definitely things that you can improve on, and I'm confident will be addressed in the upcoming patch, but I give you credit for giving us the best basketball game I've ever seen.

OS members, if you're reading this, I hope your experience with this title is better than what mine has been so far. If it's not, maybe we're not playing the same game.
The answer is obviously no due to the fact that the game changes drastically between difficulty levels (specifically the AI). The issues with player tendencies and ratings (one of example of something that shouldn't have to be corrected by users when they get the game) and specific animation flaws become much more apparent and affect the outcome of the game much more.

So yeah, if you're playing on Pro then you are going to have a much different experience than someone playing on All-Star and above. You're not playing the same game.

There is a marked difference between adjusting sliders to compensate for flaws in the game and correcting for user deficiency. You're painting with a broad brush here. If you really dig into it you'll notice that the vast majority of respectable posters with complaints have been fans of the series since its inception and are anything but "whiners". There needs to be a good measure of objectivity on both sides of the argument here. It shouldn't only be required of those who are vocal about the games flaws.

BTW, I'm curious about the percentage of posters who are raising issues and how they feel about the game overall. Most of the threads I've seen have even the most steadfast complainers saying the game is still pretty good overall. Just a thought...

Re: Am I playing the same game you are?

It's not that I expect a perfect game no matter what, I don't. I just expect a game that's better than 2k11. Why wouldn't you just take what's there, and build upon it?

I really feel as if 2k was too worried that people would complain that the game was "too much like 2k11", so they went a little overboard with trying to make it different.

It's not like I complain about their new games every year. Ive been buying these games since 2k1 (skipped 2k4), and I've never wanted to go back to the previous years game until 2k12. Ever. Maybe 2k11 was just that good for me. 2k11 felt very new and fresh, and it felt like a huge step forward. 2k12 feels different too, but it just feels like a step sideways (and slightly backwards.)

Re: Am I playing the same game you are?

I feel that the gae is better than last year, but it does have it's issues. For instance, 3pt shooting is a pain in any mode that doesn't allow you to adjust sliders (my player, online). Also, fastbreak is ridiculous as the defense has magnetic hands, and sometimes the cpu is kinda stupid, but overall, this is the best game they have made yet. Has received more grief than it deserves.
