What a bone-headed move by the business side of the Live Team

This could be the final nail in the coffin of the Live franchise IMO. That can't justify that amount of copies sold from a business point of view.

Cut your losses and release an lower-priced arcade downloadable version like RBI Baseball and call it a day.
this is the maina reason I think it will hurt them the most. Economy is bad in this world right now, gamers won't fork out full price for a game still in a work in progress. It def should have been 29.99 at launch. They would have sold more, gained more fans, and more respect from buyers and heck, probalby make more money selling it for that! IT was 49.99 about a week after launch.

The economy was bad in 2008, it's not "bad" anymore.

I wonder if the NBA would have been upset with them undervaluing its brand worth?

Didn't the NFL get ticked off when 2K sold 2K4 for $19.99?
I heard some speculation that's what prompted the NFL to push for an exclusive license with EA.

So maybe EA had no choice but to go full retail price.

When the numbers are that disparaging does it really matter?

It seems surreal.

It's amazing how far this franchise slipped. Just makes you wonder if it wasn't for the exclusive deal where would Madden be right now.

There is no way it would take 10 yrs especially since Madden sales are a fraction of what they were in 2004. People are apparently going elsewhere with their money than with EA because Madden doesnt cut it for the millions that used to buy football games. Im sure the millions who stopped buying Madden would buy another NFL game if it was a better game with more effort put into it than what EA does now especially if it came from 2k.
2K earned 100% of the marketshare the moment NBA Elite was conceived-- and caused EA/Live to skip three product cycles.

Live's just not able to get it back anymore, because it can't produce a competitive product.

I actually think 2K's marketing presence isn't particularly strong but I guess what they do with social media works when they literally have no competition. It seems a rather niche approach though, which I find odd in a game with much greater potential mainstream appeal.

Sundown:

What do you consider a mainstream approach? I would bet a huge portion of their fan base is probably only on social media, they're not watching TV. Therefore, there's no need for commercials.
