I just cant believe how PLAYABLE NHL 2K8 is...yes 2K8!

I sold NHL 11 back to Amazon when I could get a prime buck after I realized what is was. I re-bought 2K10 when I jumped over to the PS3. And there are times when the AI cycles the puck and it's jaw dropping, but the AI positioning on defense is too aggressive. I don't get as wiggy about goalie animations like a lot of you hardcore hockey gamers do and I think 2K10 is serviceable. 2K's larger problem is service, not product.

I do play a ton out of MVP 05 on the PC and the AI is great with no catch up logic when set the correct way.

NFL 2K5 when tweaked properly also has/had great AI and the APF crowd will tell you the same (but that game never grabbed me the same way).

I think the answer is none of the games are great.

I think 2K8 is better than the current offerings out there even with its faults...I love the controls which took some time to get. It's not perfect by any means but personally I enjoy it.

NHL11 was fun for a while but I got bored with it...I liked the HUT feature but that grew tired. The franchise customization was a little stale for my liking. Gameplay itself was pretty tight.

2K10 is fun as well but the player models bug me and the lack of the other visuals (stats in game, assists, etc)...although gameplay AI is improved over 2K8. The stat tracking outside of the game is stellar.

bought 2k8 2 days ago....(bought it at launch, but since I had nhl 08, I didn't give 2k8 a fair chance and didn't really mess with sliders enough)...

Fast forward nearly 4 years later, I re-purchased the game after seeing near up-to-date roster edits) .....after tinkering with sliders the last 2-3 days...the game plays great. Great scoring variety, Cpu plays a realistic game, they dump and chase, they are aggressive, they cycle and it's just a fantastic game.

ONE huge problem for me however. I commit enough penalties ( raised my roughness slider to 100),but the CPU commits 1-2 penalties a game max 3. I play 10 minutes , All Star and everything else is good statwise.

I tried to edit the CPU's roughness to 100 in the team strategies page, and it starts out at 100 , but after a shift the CPU roughness level drops to default. I edited their dump/chase tendencies to high 90s and it sticks, but the roughness won't stay the same.

Anyone know how to draw more penalties?
Anyone know how to lock the cpu roughness level ?

I think we played different versions of 2k8, mine had crappy controls, brain dead AI and a broken franchise mode.
