The historic teams are fun to use!!!!

I'm currently updating the 2K8 rosters for a Oct. release....Last year, I focused on lowering offensive attributes to make it less hard to beat the d-men...

Right now, I'm working on boosting D-men skills to further fix the matador style ....

The goalies I think are just about right with no improvements needed.

Nothing I can do about the franchise bug the second season- really stinks.

One thing I noticed was playing basically on the default sliders (with checking down, and fatigue up) I picked up 6 penalities in a game- including no fights.
Maybe it's just a random glitch but will keep testing.

Fiddy the first thing I did was download those rosters. I even went through all the hassle of downloading the programs to transfer the roster file from my usb to my xbox, because my transfer kit was left at my apartment back at college. The rosters are amazing. I will definitely be entering that code for the historic rosters. I absolutely love that addition to this game.

I still play 2k8 offline once in a while. It's true that the game was reviewed by the wrong people. Almost all the reviews slammed the control scheme, but failed to realize how much more you could do on 2k8 with the robust control scheme compared to EA's dumbed down/simple scheme geared towards the casual gamer. Ex: Because the right analog wasn't used for shooting via Up/Down it allowed the puck carrier to push the puck ahead of him and back and not just side to side.

Every year I buy the EA game and keep getting the sense that it's made for people who don't appreciate the real sport.

Well said.

Its also interesting to see that, when you look at the USED shelves at any GameStop/EB Games, its rare to see more than one copy of a 2K hockey game.

In my opinion, 2K makes a game for the true fan of the sport. You have to actually understand the basic fundamentals of the game, in order to be successful.

One of the things that influenced me the most is the goaltending. As terrible as I think the goalies have looked appearance wise in every 2k game, the actual gameplay of the goalies in 2k8 is flat out unreal. The real movements are exactly what I've been wanting from EA's series since NHL 08. It's one thing that makes EA's game hard to play. Another reason I got it is because it seems that there is still a solid fan base for this game. Rosters are out there and that greatly impacted me getting the game.

After playing the game for the past 2 hours I have to say it is a pretty solid hockey game. It's really refreshing to not know exactly what the AI will do every single time, ala NHL 11. The CPU actually does something different each time they attack the zone. I can't describe how much of a factor that has on me when I play a hockey video game. In fact variety in play, and gameplay of the goalies are my two biggest factors in determining if I enjoy the game or not. NHL 11 doesn't do enough in those two areas for me, which is why I don't enjoy the game very much. Another thing that is really cool is Bob Cole and Harry Neal's commentary. They are actually pretty good. They get excited at the proper times and make the game suspenseful.

My only two gripes so far are ones that are well known. My game freezes for 5 seconds or so during most faceoffs and sometimes other random times during the game. I did download the patch. My other gripe is the lack of penalties. It sucks not going on the PP or PK. It's one of the most important things in hockey. Other than that I haven't seen anything else so far. I've only gotten 2 games in and messed around with the settings though, so I'm sure there will most likely be other things I see. That happens with all game though. So far I'm extremely happy I went and picked up this game.
Noticing that a local EB/Gamestop has a used copy in stock, heck for 5 bucks I'm willing to give 2k8 another shot.. The question is, sliders and rosters for PS3? Anyone know if there's any updated Roster for the PS3 version?

I don't have the game for PS3 but they have rosters for both 360 and ps3. In fact the PS3 ones are being updated with free agents. Here is the website for it. http://www.2khockey.net/forums/index...ic=21938&st=15. Also just search sliders on the 2khockey.net site. Many versions of slider sets will come up. Just look for the ones that say 2k8. Many of the sliders are for 2k8 or 2k10. I'm using Venom's sliders but I forgot the link to his slider page.

Also a little tip. Go on to the gamestop website. Then search NHL 2k8. Click pickup at store. Then you enter your zip code and it will automatically check if the game is available at your gamestop. It's a really sweet feature I found out a few weeks ago. It saves a drive to gamestop if they don't have it.

No joke this game is a blast. With updated rosters it makes it even better. Another sweet feature that I forgot was in 2k8 and earlier games is the classic teams. The rosters have named classic teams as well with the actual players who played on those teams. It's really sweet. I'm really having a great time with it. It may be the most realistic hockey game I've played. It blows any EA NHL versions out of the water in the realism department because of the controls. The 2k controls don't allow you to make unrealistic dekeing moves. BTW I know it's hard to adjust to but play with the Pro stick controls. It makes the game much more enjoyable because of the freedom you have to do different types of moves. The skating is a tad clunky at first but you get used to it very fast. Just don't expect it to feel like any of the EA NHL games.
