Here they are! By umh... Popular demand? Well whatever the case, there seems to be a resurgence in people playing old 2K hockey games and that just warms my heart (Thanks to Tougie24 for streaming the game). So I thought: What better way to reward them than to share my slider settings! These are my old slider set, but tweaked a bit to cater to more modern sensibilities (without losing any of their old Hardcore Simulation flavor).

Remember, the sliders are just a guideline and you are free to make tweaks to adjust them to the way YOU want to play. But I hope these sliders make your 2K10 experience a little better.

Update: Tweaked a few sliders to make the game a bit better on mobility since the game has that skating glitch where the players will freeze in animation. This was caused by the developers patching out a skating transition animation that players (at the time) had complained made skaters explode too fast out of a complete standstill. The devs never fixed it though so we're stuck with that freeze glitch. Also played with the goalie sliders a bit so they would give longer rebounds and avoid having so many stoppages in game.

I was going to ask you, as someone who worked the sliders so much ten years ago...
1. Firstly, have you continued playing the game over the last ten years?

2. Looking at it now in 2021, looking at your initial sliders, does anything surprise you about the sliders you set back then when you play them today? What have you changed?
3. Given that it's been ten years, is there anything for you with 2K10 that hasn't aged well? Anything that you feel sliders don't or can't address?


Would love to hear your thoughts on these things.

1. I've played 2K10 off and on. But my heart is with NHL 2K8. I've had less time to play any game these last 2 years though.

2. Umh... Mostly the speed of the game. Back then we were mostly concerned with having the game play "sim", certain things had to be sacrificed in order to get the stats mostly correct. Now I just want something that feels good and looks good too. Most of the changes I made should be minor, but they're mostly to CPU sliders trying to get them to shoot less and pass the puck more.

3. Having been privy to EA's style of "hockey", I can see that the AI intelligence hasn't leveled up much. LOL! You can still see it in 2K10 (and 2K8) when you try to set up for a cycle and your AI teammates will sometimes get out of the way. What tips the scale for me are the goalies which I've never liked in 2K10 compared to 2K8. It's just not the same. I do love how every game you play is different. Different teams will go through hot and cold spurts in Franchise mode, so you might play say, Washington early on and then play them later and it will be a totally different game. Also playing different teams means different approaches. Again, Washington might be very aggressive on Offense, but a team like Montreal will be very defensive. I also like how in 2K's games team's Superstars means something. It's fun that way instead of same thing over and over no matter who you play in EA's games.

Very well done Venom. I loved your old sliders back in the day and your new ones too. I've played the heck outta every 2K hockey title and my faves will always be 2K3, 5, 8 and 10. Too bad the old homepage was taken off. So much memories..... and useful content.
But, hey... I'm glad you're back in the saddle and hoping you're doing fine. Much respect to the pioneers of 2K roster and slider makers.

The face off freeze? As far as I know that is due to low game speed set.
