Madden video games have nothing to do with the bargaining between the NFLPA and the NFL though. The collective bargaining doesn't have to do with exclusive licensing, if I'm not mistaken.

Re: 2K Making a Return?

The first is regarding revenue from licensing. The second is basically questioning if the NFL can use their image during a lockout since it doesn’t have NFLPA licensing at that time. It doesn’t really answer if the EA license coincides with their labor agreements. Honestly I don’t think it does, it’s done separate.

So if their labor agreement expires in 2021 but the EA contract doesn’t, it won’t matter. EA has licensing from both NFL and NFLPA, sure. The NFLPA could, in theory, license another game. If the NFL doesn’t though, it won’t matter.

Sure they could bargain saying that upon expiration they want to license another developer, but I don’t think a second game is really big on the list of desires the NFLPA has. They’re concerned about contracts and revenue share.

Re: 2K Making a Return?

A forum now exists for upcoming NFL-licensed arcade football game developed by 2K Sports, so I'm closing this thread as to redirect discussion there.
