Re: NHL EHM 2007

I don't know what it is. I just never really got into this game.

I think it's pretty awesome how you have so many leagues to choose from and you can send your prospects to the ECHL and stuff.

I just did not ever get used to the layout. Maybe I should give this game another try..

Re: NHL EHM 2007

My Guide to EHM 2007

There are many ways to play Eastside Hockey Manager 2007. Some people play to have the franchise that wins lots of cups. Some people play to have a strong offensive team that sets records, or have a defensive juggernaut that is hell to play against. Or there is my personal way of playing it, no trades, no free agents, just build through the drafts. Regardless how you play, the most important aspect of the game is, The Draft.

Drafting

Before you get to drafting, you need good scouts. It is wise to have about 10 or so scouts available for scouting.

This is how I set up my scouting.

My teams/NHL AHL: You will want about one scout to draft you NHL team and your AHL team. As well you will want a scout to permanently scout the NHL, and another to scout the AHL. And another to scout your shortlist. Both should be good at judging player ability.
  1. Your NHL team-One scout-High Judging
  2. Your AHL team-One scout-High Judging
  3. NHL-One Scout (PERM)-High Judging
  4. AHL-One Scout (PERM)-High Judging
  5. Shortlist-One Scout (PERM)-High Judging (High potential if lots of prospects.)

Prospects: You will want scouts to scout the WHL, QMJHL, and the OHL as well. Also the US colleges is a good bet as well. All these scouts will need a good ability to scout for potential.

  1. OHL-One Scout (PERM)-Hogh Potential
  2. WHL-One Scout (PERM)-High Potential
  3. QMJHL-One Scout (Perm)-High Potential
For the US Colleges you will want the scout to rotate between colleges, intensely scouting. So get him to scout the various college leagues, including the United States Hockey League (USHL).

4.Colleges-One Scout-High Potential

You will also want one to scout for the NHL Entry Draft. Intensely.

5.NHL Draft-One Scout-High Potential

Leagues:You will want your scouts to scout the European countries for young talent and talent you overlooked in previous drafts. In the game hockey superpowers switch around, so adjust accordingly

  1. Sweden-One Scout (PERM)-High potential/High Judging, from area.
  2. Finland-One scout (PERM)-High potential/Judging, from area
  3. Russia-One scout (PERM)-High potential/judging, from area
  4. Czech-One Scout (PERM)-High Potential/judging, from area
  5. Slovak-One Scout (PERM)-High Potential/Judging, from area
  6. North America-One Scout (PERM)-High Potential/Judging
Obviously you can do other leagues like Germany, but those are the ones you should focus on. The North American one is just kind of a clean up guy. He scouts for people you may have missed.

In total you should have about 16 scouts, but if you don't just make scouts do two jobs.

Next update the actual draft.

In Football Manager you can be a coach of a national team and select who you want on your country, can you do this in EHM? Also, is there world juniors, world championship, olympics and the world cup in this game?

yes to all of those!

Great start to the guide, pinky! It's too bad I did not see it until well after the draft!

Re: NHL EHM 2007

Drafting

Before I draft I like to look at the various players available to see where they would fit in my team. I come up with three or so players in the first round then a couple for later rounds.

The main attributes I look at when drafting is Determination, Work Rate, Teamwork, Influence, and Bravery. If all these stats, you know this player will usually do good as he will work his butt off to do better and improve.

In the first round usually I draft the best player available. But if my team needs a defensive prospect, I will draft the best defensemen.

The second round is similar to the first, especially if you are drafting early as there are lots of good players on the board.

Later rounds. This is where all that scouting comes in. If you scouted well you should, be able to find good prospects. These are the rounds where you look for players with high Determination, Work Rate, Teamwork, Influence, and Bravery. Don't be afraid to go off the board.

Remember you have these players rights for a couple of years unlike NHL 09, don't feel pressured to sign them right away.

Re: NHL EHM 2007

question for you, Pinky.

I've heard the term "best player available" (also abbreviated into BPA) thrown around quite often in reference to this game, but...

how do I tell who the BPA really is? Do i look at their game rating (i.e. "superb, very good, etc etc")? Or is there a hidden attribute I should be looking at?

Anyways, another excellent installment to the guide. I would have never guessed to look for those attributes when drafting, that's for sure!

When are you going to start talking about tactics? *drool*
