Selling spree at Upton Park

After a disappointing finish to last season, Gianfranco Zola needed to change his squad around. He left some players out of the side that beat Chelsea in a boring 1-0 FA Community Shield win on Sunday, and he has gone to publicly announce he has sold 5 players before the season has started.

The most notable one had to be Dean Ashton. Ashton broke his ankle while on England duty in 2006, and has never fully recovered. After three seasons being hampered by injury, he called it a day in England, by moving to France to play for Lyon, using it as a share of relaxing, and trying to get his fitness back.

3 of the others were understandable. 31 year-old midfielder Nigel Quashie has joined Arsenal. For unknown circumstances, Arsenal moved for the veteran, as they add experience to their squad. Danny Gabbidon was another mover, going to Everton for £1,300,000, while 'keeper Jan Lastuvka joined crisis club Portsmouth for £300,000.

It also seems like Julien Faubert is not wanted at Upton Park anymore. During the course of last season, Faubert went on loan to Real Madrid, but never made a start for the Galacticos. Now, he is seen as just back-up to Valon Behrami on the wing, and Wigan have seemed eager to take him on loan for a full season.

We wish all the players who have left West Ham United the best in their future careers, and it looks like no new signings will be made before West Ham kick-off their league campaign against Sunderland on Saturday.

Re: [[ The Academy of Football ... A West Ham United F.C Dynasty ]]

Dyer wants better for the West Ham reserves

Alex Dyer (43) watched in agony as his brave Hammers came up against tough oposition in the Hong Kong Sevens, ultimately coming up against an experienced Citizens (Not Manchester City) side, and despite holding out for a draw, losing in a penalty Shoot-Out, and finishing the tournament in 6th place, the same as last year. However, Dyer has kept the young Hammers upbeat, and pleased with themselves, stating that

"A Penalty Shoot-out is all luck, and that there is no club who cannot lose them."

Dyer is looking forward to the upcoming Premier Reserve League with great anticipation under assurances from Gianfranco Zola that at least one youth player will be brought to West Ham, and added to Dyer's strong reserve side. West Ham would love to win the League this year, but it will take a lot of detirmination from the young Hammers.

This year with the additions of Watford and Reading, the South Reserve League will consist of 10 teams, same as the North Reserve League, who lost both Newcastle and Middlesbrough to Premiership Relegation, but gained Stoke City because Derby were further south. The South league had previously had 9 teams, while the North had 11, but with the relegation of West Brom, they would both be equal at 10 teams this season, meaning 18 fixtures for each side, plus a Final between the winners of both leagues.
