Bruno Andrade continues fantastic run of form.

Wycombe Continue to Climb

Wycombe has found its stride at the right time. As teams begin to either fade away or rise to the top, Wycombe found the later to define themselves. It all started early in this league match against Torquay United. Bruno Andrade found himself on the finishing end of a give-and-go with Jo Kuffour who checked back into the midfield to recieve the first pass. Bruno Andrade would slip the ball passed the helpless keeper in the fourth minute. This was just the beginning of an exciting first half. Stuart Lewis doubled the lead, tapping in a rebound from a Jo Kuffour shot in the 18th minute. This seemed to wake Torquay United, who had the better of play to end the second half. They were rewarded for their attack in the 26th minute with a blunder by Wycombe keeper Matt Ingram who was caught wandering around the box. Billy Bodin crossed the ball to a wide open Elliot Benyon who tapped the ball into the empty net. The second half would start very much in favor of Wycombe, who were rewarded by Juan Maresca's near post blast from a Bruno Andrade pass in the 57th minute. Things were then made interesting in the 88th minute when Billy Bodin headed home a lobbed ball from Elliot Benyon, cutting the lead down to 3-2. The game would end with nothing more happening, but both teams entertained and Wycombe took three points on the road.

Juan Maresca and Bruno Andrade have turned it up!

A Partnership is Formed

Bruno Andrade didn't know how much time he'd be getting and Juan Maresca was playing for his local town team in Argentina. Flash forward three months and Wycombe Wanderers have their future secured with these two. They combined twice as Juan Maresca scored a hat-trick this afternoon. For Maresca, he has a league-leading 12 goals, and a team-leading 20 goals in all competitions in 25 appearances.

Capital One Cup Quarter Final
Weds, Nov 28, 2012
Globe Arena
Morecambe 1-0 (ET) Wycombe

109' Jordan Burrow (Jack Redshaw) - MOR

Jordan Burrow celebrates his extra time winner.

Wycombe Eliminated in Capital One Cup

The first 45 minutes of this game showcased two teams that were scared of being eliminated in the quarter final game of the Capital One Cup. It surely seemed that whichever team was able to snap out of it first would win. That team was Morecambe. Wycombe were on their heels for the entire game and were very fortunate to force extra time. In the 71st minute Morecambe had their best chance to take the lead as they were given a penalty. Chris Holroyd stepped up, looking for his 10th goal in all competitions this season, but Wycombe's young Matt Ingram came up huge with a save that deflected the ball up and over the crossbar. Then in the 109th minute Jack Redshaw played Jordan Burrow through to the corner of the box. Burrow then went right at the slower Anthony Stewart, pushed the ball passed him, and crushed the ball hard passed Ingram by the near post. Wycombe never came close to scoring even though they held the advantage in shots 18-16. This is the first elimination for Wycombe in any tournament this season. With the FA Cup Second Round match coming up on the weekend let's hope they don't bow out of two tournaments in one week.

Adams Park
Wycombe 1-1 Gillingham

77' Juan Maresca - WYC
90' Adam Birchall (Chris Whelpdale) - GIL

Adam Birchall equalizes in the 90th minute to break Wycombe hearts.

Un-inspiring Performance Leads to Replay

Wycombe did no justice to what should come from a game in the world's oldest soccer tournament. They didn't play with pace, they didn't finish any of their chances, they just went through the motions. For the second straight game Wycombe seemed lost on the pitch. Coach Pfeifer gave Gareth Ainsworth the start at left midfield for his first appearance in a month, and he was very rusty. It wasn't until the 77th minute that Wycombe came alive, and did they ever have something to celebrate about. In what may be the goal of the FA Cup, Juan Maresca took a 35 yard free kick and dispatched it over the wall and passed the keeper. It was surely Maresca's best goal of his career. Wycombe then played on its heels for the remainder of the game, allowing Gillingham into their end wave after wave. Finally, it paid off for Gillingham after striking the post twice and landing in Matt Ingram's hands, they found the post again but grabbed their own rebound and tapped it in for the equalizing goal. There were mere moments left after the goal went in, which is exactly how close Wycombe were to the FA Cup Third Round, but instead require a play-off at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium.

Re: The Chairboys of Wycombe (FIFA 13)

Red Bull Salzburg Come Calling

As if Coach Pfeifer didn't have enough to answer about this week at his press conferences, he has been linked to a possible candidate for Red Bull Salzburg. RB Salzburg have been struggling to find wins in a league they normally would roll through. They stand in fourth place with a record of 9-10-1 and have 37 points to their name. They are just four points behind league leaders SV Ried and SK Sturm Graz and three points behind third place FK Austria. The unbelievable amount of draws has the fan base as well as management very frustrated. Wycombe's recent run of form before this current cup stretch had been spectacular, so it is no surprise to have bigger and better clubs offering contracts to Coach Pfeifer. This will be an interesting storyline as the season heats up.

Austrian Bundesliga
  1. SV Reid 12-5-3 (41 pts.)
  2. SK Sturm Graz 12-5-3 (41 pts.)
  3. FK Austria 12-4-4 (40 pts.)
  4. RB Salzburg 9-10-1 (37 pts.)
  5. SK Rapid Wien 9-5-6 (32 pts.)
  6. SV Mattersburg 7-4-9 (25 pts.)
  7. Admira 5-3-12 (18 pts.)
  8. Innsbruck 5-2-13 (17 pts.)
  9. Wolfsberger AC 3-6-11 (15 pts.)
  10. Wiener Neustadt 2-4-14 (10 pts.)

Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Semi Final
Tues, Dec 4, 2012
Adams Park

Wycombe 1-2 Exeter City

19' John O'Flynn - EXE
24' Lawson D'Ath (Liam Sercombe) - EXE
86' Jo Kuffour (Juan Maresca) - WYC

Lawson D'Ath celebrates his eventual game-winner.

Wycombe Can't Get Out Of It's Own Way

In what has become a debacle of the last couple weeks, Wycombe have found themselves knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. With many of the starters resting, Coach Pfeifer went with youth to start. It was a rough start defensively with Exeter City picking apart the Wycombe center backs twice for goals in the 19th and 24th minutes. That five minute span was all Exeter City needed as they held on to a late surge from The Chairboys. Jo Kuffour came on late to find the back of the net in the 86th minute from Juan Maresca, but it was too little, too late. With their focus left to two competitions in the npower League 2 and the F.A. Cup Round 2 Replay, fans are hoping the funk ends here.
