A New Age Is Upon Us - WWE '13 Universe Mode

Ten years ago, the WWE was at a point where it was unstoppable. World Championship Wrestling was purchased by Vincent K. McMahon, Extreme Championship Wrestling had been absorbed by the company, and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling was 1 year old. Now, World Wrestling Entertainment is still at the top in terms of professional wrestling, but federations like TNA, Ring of Honor, and New Japan Pro Wrestling have begun making pushes towards being legitimate threats to the WWE's crown.

In recent years, the WWE has gone through a transition into a "PG Era," where the product has been watered down to more of a family friendly television show. Many hardcore fans have been very negative about this transition, and long for an edgier product. They may finally get their wish, after Vince McMahon's shocking statement after last night's show, Wrestlemania.

"We know about the other promotions that are making big strides towards being legitimate competition, and they're pushing 'Attitude Era'-like shows. I feel that right now, we have the best collection of talent that we've ever had here in the WWE, but we've had a tough time utilizing everybody. From now on, the product is going to be edgier. We're going to be bringing back ECW this week as a third brand, and we'll finally split our roster once again into three portions: Raw, Smackdown, and ECW. Tune in tomorrow for more details."

Bray Wyatt (w/Luke Harper) VS Sin Cara

Spoiler

As the WWE awaited Bray Wyatt's much anticipated in-ring debut, Sin Cara began making his way to the ring. However, before he got to the ring, he was ambushed by Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, Bray Wyatt's "brothers." Once they rolled Sin Cara into the ring, the lights went out and the ominous music began playing. As Bray Wyatt slowly made his way to the ring, Sin Cara was still warding off the injuries suffered from the attack. Wyatt dominated the match-up, and once he hit his spinning reverse STO, it was game over.

Winner: Bray Wyatt via pinfall

Match #2:
One on One
Kofi Kingston VS The Miz

It was pretty apparent who the WWE Universe was behind in this one, as "Let's Go Kofi" and "Miz Sucks" chants rang all throughout the arena. But once the match started, The Miz dominated Kofi, keeping the high-flyer grounded. Once Kofi began to get some momentum, the action was back-and-forth all the way to the finish. After the Miz dropped Kofi with a DDT, Kingston was busted wide open, and then Miz acted like a shark that could smell blood in the water, as he went straight to the Skull Crushing Finale, picking up the win.

Winner: The Miz via pinfall

Match #3:
One on One
Brie Bella (w/Nikki Bella) VS Kaitlyn

Spoiler

Kaitlyn came out ready to win, as she took it to Brie Bella right from the get-go. However, a distraction from Brie's twin sister, Nikki, allowed Brie to get some momentum as she began to fight off Kaitlyn's relentless attacks. The action spilled outside, where Kaitlyn got the upper hand again, and once the action moved back into the ring, Kaitlyn began chaining together some good power moves. However, another distraction from Nikki allowed Brie to hit a sit-down facebuster, as she pulled off the upset on the former Diva's champion.

Winner: Brie Bella via pinfall

Match #4:
Six-Man Tag Team
Kane, Big Show, and CM Punk VS The Shield

The Shield certainly had their work cut out for them tonight, as they were taking on 3 former world champions in tag team action tonight. The Shield, who hold every Raw title except for the WWE Championship, had a game plan to try and isolate the Big Red Machine, Kane, from his team. Kane and Big Show, however, had other ideas, as they displayed their great teamwork with a double-team. The match was nearly over early, as Big Show planted Ambrose with a chokeslam, but Rollins was able to breakup the pin attempt. Show, Kane, and Punk kept Ambrose away from his dangerous teammates, and the gameplan was working flawlessly, until Ambrose managed to tag in Reigns. Reigns was able to ground the Big Show, and the Shield went to work on the fallen giant. But then, suddenly, Seth Rollins attacked Roman Reigns!! Reigns was able to tag in Ambrose, but Ambrose was the victim to a Big Show chokeslam, as Show, Kane, and Punk picked up the victory.

But what does this mean for the Shield? Is Seth Rollins out of the group? Rollins and Reigns still hold the tag titles, though.

Main Event:
One on One
John Cena VS Chris Jericho

The crowd was split on this one, as Y2J Chris Jericho took on the WWE Champion, John Cena. Cena got off to a hot start, as he was able to hit Jericho with just about everything in his arsenal, but he couldn't yet put him away. However, Y2J began to get some momentum going, and it looked as if Cena was going to get upset by the veteran. However, Cena began to string together a combination of moves that resulted in a Five-Knuckle Shuffle getting hit on Jericho. Cena then was able to hit an Attitude Adjustment on Jericho, and he picked up the victory over the former world champion.

Winner: John Cena via pinfall

The Madness (Ohno and Morrison) VS David Otunga and Ted DiBiase

The newly formed tag team of NXT call-up Kassius Ohno and the returning John Morrison found themselves in action early, as the team of David Otunga and Ted DiBiase challenged them to a match to open the show. The Madness, as Ohno and Morrison like to call themselves, used their flashy offense to stun Otunga and DiBiase. As Otunga distracted the referee, Ohno hit DiBiase with a running knee, and Morrison took advantage, hitting the Starship Pain to pick up the victory. Will Ohno and Morrison be able to find gold in their future?

One on One
Justin Gabriel VS Drew McIntyre

The ECW World Television Champion Justin Gabriel issued an open challenge to anybody in the back, as he claimed that he would fight anybody, as he's trying to prove to be a fighting champion. Surprisingly answering the call was former 3MB member, Drew McIntyre. McIntyre has ditched the leather pants, the rock 'n' roll bandannas, and the eyeliner as he's trying to get his career back on track. After a relatively back-and-forth match, Justin Gabriel ascended the top turnbuckle to perhaps go for his patented 450 Splash, but McIntyre had other ideas. Drew climbed the turnbuckle as well and superplexed Gabriel to the canvas, and he finished the Television Champion off with the Future Shock DDT. With a win over the TV Champion, expect Drew McIntyre to begin ascending the ECW ranks.

The Great Khali (w/Muhammad Hassan) VS Yoshi Tatsu

After getting recruited by Muhammad Hassan and Jinder Mahal, The Great Khali has been dominant once again, as he's been targeting multiple ECW superstars. Tonight, he was set to take on the Japanese superstar, Yoshi Tatsu. In what seemed to be a mismatch, Khali was dominating Tatsu, but out of nowhere, Hassan planted a chair shot right on Yoshi's skull, getting Khali disqualified, though he hardly cared. Khali then hoisted Tatsu up for a devastating two-handed chokeslam.

Winner: Yoshi Tatsu via disqualification

Match #4:
Extreme Rules One on One
Evan Bourne VS Fandango

Spoiler

Evan Bourne made a shocking return earlier tonight, as Fandango was in the ring bragging about his Wrestlemania victory over Chris Jericho. Bourne challenged Fandango to an Extreme Rules match, and after much hesitation, Fandango accepted.

After Fandango's grand entrance, Bourne wasted little time getting to the ring, and the two began duking it out. Fandango was in charge of the matchup throughout the beginning, as he kept the high-flyer in check with some vicious attacks in the corner. However, once the action spilled outside, Bourne took a championship belt from an audience member and began striking Fandango with it. Fandango was only able to stop the onslaught by stealing a fan's drink and throwing it in Bourne's face. After the drink toss, Fandango introduced a sledge hammer into the match, but was unable to connect. Bourne then planted Fandango with a DDT on the announce table, crushing the broadcast table in the process.

Fandango recovered, and he ended up busting Bourne open with a steel chair. As the blood began pouring down Bourne's face, Fandango grabbed a ladder and began knocking Bourne senseless with it. The action finally moved back into the ring, and Fandango hit a reverse STO on Bourne to pick up the astonishing victory. What a match!

Tensai VS Rob Van Dam

Spoiler

ECW World Heavyweight Champion Rob Van Dam was scheduled to take on the dangerous Tensai in one on one competition, but the match never officially got underway, as a shocking interference ended the match prematurely. Before the bell rang, the ever-hungry Ryback stormed the ring and Shell Shocked both competitors, and the referee was forced to end the match in a no-contest. Does Van Dam now have a target on his back?

Result: No-Contest
