What went down...
It's not often Benfica trail, however, in the downpour they trailed after 8 minutes and didn't equalise until 20th. It was a game of two halves for Pacos though. They suddenly fizzled out during the second half and Benfica took over, eventually scoring the game winner on the brink of half-time.

Midfield...
Benfica's midfield played outstanding against Pacos, with Salvio and John scoring the two goals in the 2-1 win. While the midfield didn't play brilliantly against Chelsea, they did today which is one of the reasons why they won, which really should have been more if you factor in 3 post shots.

What went down...
It wasn't the best game played by Benfica, nonetheless, they executed it well with a 2-0 win. Artur Moraes saved countless shots that could have ended up in the back of the net if it wasn't another keeper.

Injured and a send off
John injured his shoulder while Jardel got sent off for the second time this season, albeit first time in the domestic league.

Champions League Preview: Ola John sidelined for 9 days, Benfica travel to Germany as Borussia Dortmund face elimination on Halloween night

Borussia Dortmund are planning to stage a halloween party within the stadium, with fans dressing up for the game, but it will be themselves as they fight off the horror of elimination.

Without a win in three games, Dortmund have just one point, while second placed Benfica have 4. While this isn't the end of the world, with their -3 goal difference, Dortmund will face an uphill climb if they lose against Benfica who will then be on 7 points.

Dortmund, however, can blow a sigh of relief as Benfica announced that Ola John, the speedy 20-year old midfielder has been ruled out for nine days with a bruised shoulder. Benfica announced Perez will take John's place while Melgarejo will replace Luisao as the full-time starter as left defender.

"We need speed," said Benfica manager Pretorius. "We don't have that in Luisao and he's getting tired so he's going to become a substitute now, I don't view it as a dropping, I view it as a change of direction with the team.

Benfica have been vulnerable on the counter-attack as countless teams have exploited the slow defender with through balls and chips.

"We're a team that's always going to be modernising and adapting to the changes of the game, and we are just going to get faster."

Champions league review: Halloween horror as Borussia Dortmund eliminated as Benfica shock hosts with 3-0 win

Borussia Dortmund were unofficially eliminated from the Champions League group stage after their 3-0 loss to Benfica in rainy conditions allowed Cristian Tello to score two goals while Gervinho converted a penalty -- all before half-time.

It was a game where the talented Portuguese club dismantled the German clubs defense and heavily outplayed the rest of the team in the ninety minutes of mayhem that ensued.

Truth be told, Benfica could have won by a lot more if not for the efforts of Dortmund's keeper Roman Weidenfeller, who saved countless balls although letting three in, one a rebound, one a cross and another a penalty which was recklessly committed by star defender Hummels.

"We played a very good game, some will say we relaxed after half-time with a 3-0 lead, we really just performed defensively and secured our lead." said the Benfica manager.

While there were a couple of discreet changes to the teams starting eleven, the Benfica manager hinted this will be the team that competes each week with the addition of Dutch footballer Ola John, when he returns from injury.

The Halloween spectacle that was billed to be game of the week turned into a nightmare for Dortmund fans that was engineered by 20-year old Cristian Tello. "He played an impressive game and he's making a case for himself." said the manager. "We originally wanted to loan him out for the bench but he's putting together an impressive season and he's showing us he can be a viable starter for the future, so we could put a bid in come January."

Benfica enjoyed another game where they dominated, scoring three goals. Salvio scored early while Quaresma and Cristian Tello scored in open nets after passing while the keeper came out.

A late send off!
In the final minute and up 3-0, Melgarejo made a reckless tackle which resulted in a penalty, that's three red cars Benfica have picked up in 15 games this season.

Round 12: Benfica swat aside Nacional in 5-3 stomping

What went down...
Benfica stomped Nacional in this eight goal spectacle where Jordan Lukaku opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Cristian Tello made it 2-0 17 minutes later. Despite the score being 2-1 at half-time, thanks to Carlos Martins, Ola John and Quaresma, they built up a 5-2 lead before allowing Skolnik to add a consolation goal in the 90th minute.

Another red card...
Benfica were awarded another red card when Sidnei was shown his second yellow card in the game, four minutes after receiving his first. He is the 3rd player to be sent off for Benfica this season.
