MATCH REPORT:

The home side finally broke through after a dominant opening through Buchtmann in the 34th minute. A lovely lay off from Buchtmann fell to Schindler, who showed great poise to run at the full back on the right side before pulling it back to Buchtmann who thundered it in to the bottom left corner, making it 1-0 St. Pauli.

Der Braun-Weiß were then awarded a penalty bang on half time, and a chance to double their lead when Verhoek had his shot blocked by the arm of FSV centre back Oumari after great work on the right by Rzatkowski had picked him out. No complaints from Oumari or FSV, and Nehrig sent the 'keeper the wrong way to make it 2-0.

Sankt Pauli came close to making it three in a good spell following the break. Firstly, after a headed clearance from Oumari, Verhoek unleashed a 20 yard thunderbolt that whizzed past a motionless FSV 'keeper, but also past the right hand post by about 5 yards. Then, Bartels made a cut inside and hit a sweet curling shot that was also just wide of the right post.

The visitors had to attack and were almost being picked off at will on the counter. Following a blocked shot, Verhoek crashed a header against the bar from the resulting corner. Moments later, he rolled a shot just wide after being teed up by Rzatkowski.

The newly introduced Nothe got on the scoresheet in the 76th minute when a blocked shot from Buchtmann fell into his path and he hit in sweetly on the half volley into the bottom corner to make it 3-0 to the Buccaneers.

There was a late consollation for Frankfurt as Leckie converted the rebound after being put through on goal and having his shot well saved by Tschauner, but the ball fell straight back to him to make it 3-1 in the last minute.

Full time: FCSP 3-1 FSV
  • Manager Vrabec's comments:

    Quote:
It was a very dominant performance in every category for us today. Of course I would like us to be more clinical given the amount of shots and the nature of the way we played, but I'm very very pleased with the way the gameplan was executed. It was a shame not to keep a clean sheet, but the game was done and over before then so I am not too disappointed.

VRABEC WANTS TO BOLSTER SQUAD IN JANUARY

7/11/2013: -- St Pauli, Hamburg

In an exclusive interview, FC St. Pauli coach Roland Vrabec has stated he wishes to strengthen his squad in the January window. The German stated:

Quote:
“Obviously we have made a fantastic start to the season, but in my opinion it is important that we take the initiative and make our team better and stronger where possible. I do not deny we will likely have bids for our players because they have all played brilliantly to start the season. Its our job to keep hold of them and at the same time bolster our depth.”

Vrabec has reportedly enquired about the availability of defender Mergim Mavraj from Greuther Furth, who is out of contract in the summer and is supposedly looking to move on to pastures new. The Hamburg club are also lining up a bid for winger Michael Gorlitz of FSV Frankfurt. Vrabec’s scouts have gathered the necessary information to pursue targets, and there is no question they could be a serious promotion contender with the right additions to the squad.

FC ST. PAULI 2-1 UNION BERLIN

A brace from Fin Bartels was enough to see St. Pauli past a resilient Union Berlin side who had started the season well, winning 2-1 at the Millerntor.

MATCH REPORT:

In a first half of very few chances it was the hosts who took the lead moments before the break with an unlikely goal from Bartels. After Verhoek had laid it into the path of Schindler on the wing, he crossed from the left and Bartels darted in from the back of the box to head past the 'keeper across goal. 1-0 Sankt Pauli.

Terodde levelled the game for the vistors in the 65th minute when he headed in a fantastic cross from the byline courtesy of Brandy, beating Tschauner in the top left corner and restoring parity in the game.

However it was to be the Buccaneers who had the final say in the game. Rzatkowski was instrumental as his teasing cross was only flicked on by the head of the Union centre back, and once again Bartels arrived at the back of the box to snatch the loose ball. He brought it down, cut past the sliding left back before thundering into the top left corner across goal yet again. 2-1 St. Pauli, which it stayed until the final whistle.

Full time: FCSP 2-1 FCU

  • Manager Vrabec's comments:

    Quote:
I thought it was a very scrappy game, and given the conditions I expected it. Thankfully we have produced two moments of quality amongst the scrappiness and emerged with 3 points. If we are to challenge this year, which I'm sure we can, we have to grind out results and the players proved they can.

Great stuff as always! Glad to see you're competing for promotion, and hope you keep it up.

This is great practice for your sports journalism aspirations. You definitely seem to have the talent and desire for it. Best of luck!

Thanks very much buddy! I really am passionate about sports writing, and I can't wait to see if I have a future in it. It would be a dream come true so I'm working as hard as I can to achieve my goal!

To all my followers; sadly it's A level exam time for me to decide whether I go to university, so it's a stressful time of year. I will try get as much content out as possible, but I won't be able to post as frequently as I have. It takes aout an hour to do each post, maybe more, so I need to prioritise right now with it being the most important time of my life. Stay tuned though and thanks for the viewership and support!
