Lane United sign Hillboro U18 fullback

EUGENE, OR - Lane United has signed former Hillsboro Under 18s fullback Dermot Burgess to a multi-year contract. The 16 year old has not featured for the senior squad as of yet, but rates positively on the reserve teams.

"We were delighted to find Dermot and bring him as part of our squad. Our scouting department loved his talent and we're very excited to have signed him," said manager Mike Snider.

This transfer is a free transfer, which means there will be no fee paid to Hillsboro (who is part of the Patriot League One, on tier 8 of the US Soccer Pyramid).

Preview: Lane United vs Kent

SPRINGFIELD, OR - Lane United will play its first home league game tomorrow when they take on the Kent Hornets from Kent, Washington. Kent, like the Reds, lost their first game 2-0 to Federal Way. They weren't able to make it out of the game at full strength, as their left midfielder Frank Winters strained knee ligaments, and will be out for two months.

Kent is currently playing without a head coach, which will add more strain to defender and captain Don Vincent, who will not have someone to think tactically, and will have to manage the game. The key player for Kent will be Aaron Zimmerman, a defensive midfielder that has good tackling and pace.

Lane United will have a full contingent of players to choose from, while Kent will be missing both Winters and striker Andrew Reed.

Kent and Lane United are both sitting at the bottom of the Northwest Premier table, where they are slightly above Meridian on goal differential.

Tomorrow's game will be at 3:00 pm PT at the Willamalane Center in Springfield. Odds have Lane United as the favorite at 5-4 odds, but analysts for leading soccer publications think Kent will take the victory.

Lane United draw with Kent

SPRINGFIELD, OR - Both Lane United and Kent couldn't get much going today, and both teams will leave Willamalane with one point, as they concluded a scoreless draw.

Not many chances were had by both teams, but some of the chances were good ones. Kent had a few chances one-on-one with keeper Adam Freece that he turned away. Lane United tried to pressure Kent keeper Dax West, but most shots weren't on frame to begin with.

Lane United had two cautionary subs for possible injuries. Attacking midfielder Matt Maurer was taken off at the 26th minute, and replaced by Troy Moore. Today's captain and midfielder Steve Burdett was substituted out at the 40th minute, and had Luke Martinez replace him.

"I don't think they were major injuries, but it's still early in the season, so we're going to be cautious with how we deal with health," said manager Mike Snider. "We need our guys to be healthy to win these games."

Kent did have a major injury in stoppage time in the first half, when defensive midfielder Josh Rowe needed to be taken off.

Preview: Lane United at Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS, ID - Lane United is now fully into the league season now, and only have one point to show for it in two games, sitting in dead last. They travel to Idaho Falls to take on the Moccasins, who currently sit in third, which is good enough to play in a promotion game.

Idaho Falls, like Kent from last week, is playing without a head coach. Midfielder Ian Long is the captain, and slotted in a goal in their 4-1 win over Renton to start the season well, although he came on late in their 0-1 loss to Federal Way last week.

Lane United has yet to score a goal in league play, and has lost in their only other away game.

Idaho Falls also has a game in the Federal Cup First round in 4 days against Green Mountain S.C. in Rutland, Vermont, and with the injuries that have piled up for them, will not be at full strength for one of the two games. Three players are out, and three are doubtful.

For Lane United, midfielder Steve Burdett is out with a bruised shin, and will be out for a few more days.

Two Hat Tricks in Lane United Win

IDAHO FALLS, ID - Some were wondering where the attacking football was for Lane United. Manager Mike Snider had been urging that it was coming, and coming soon. He was right, and Lane United won their first game of the season, 5-3, over Idaho Falls.

Idaho Falls attacking midfielder Esteban Edwards started the scoring on the day in the 30th minute, which was quickly matched by Reds striker Paul Rosales, putting in two within the span of 15 minutes, at the 32nd minute and the 45th minute. Rosales opened the floodgate, and midfielder Marcus Rodriguez put one in for the Reds in the 59th minute. Defender Ben Leonard put in the 4th goal at the 72nd minute, before Rosales finished his hat trick in the 90th minute. Esteban Edwards finished his hat trick late in the game, with a goal at the 78th minute, and the 92nd minute.

Right before halftime, defender Matt Brown got his second yellow card and was sent off, leaving Idaho Falls without 10 men, and down 2-1. While Lane United already had two goals, this event seemed to drive the Reds to score and score again, with three in the second half.

"The floodgates opened today, certainly," said manager Mike Snider, "When Brown was sent off, it helped open up some space, and we were finishing spectacularly."

Lane United had three players booked with yellow cards, with defender Dermot Burgess, Rodriguez, and Leonard all watching the referee for discipline.

Idaho Falls drops to 6th in the league, while Lane United jumps to 3rd.

Lane United sign Beaverton midfielder

EUGENE, OR - Lane United has signed former Beaverton midfielder Isaac Oduro to a multi-year contract. The 16 year old has made two appearances for the Beaverton Timbers this year, and has played well for a team that needed some help.

"We look over our roster every day and try to figure out ways to improve our squad. Last time we had a selection to make, we found we needed midfielders," said manager Mike Snider, "We found Isaac and identified him as a guy that we could bring in and have him compete and help shape the future of the club."

This transfer is a free transfer, which means there will be no fee paid to Beaverton (who is part of the Patriot League One, on tier 8 of the US Soccer Pyramid).

Lane United draws Carrollton in Federal Cup Second Round Play
August 22nd, 2013

EUGENE, OR - Lane United has entered the 2013 Federal Cup, and they will be facing a team from the USS Western Prairie Premier, the Carrollton Kestrels from Carrollton, Texas. Carrollton has been selected as the home team, so the Reds will have a long journey to play their game on September 11th, 2013.

So far this season, Carrollton sports a similar record to Lane United, with a record of 1-1-1, with a +1 goal differential, scoring 4. The Reds have three games before the tilt with Carrollton, facing Yakima away to finish their two game road trip, and then coming home for two games.

Carrollton has two games between now and the Federal Cup game, facing Springdale at home, then traveling to Frisco.

The Federal Cup is only for teams in the USS Regional Premier and below.

Preview: Lane United at Yakima

YAKIMA, WA - Before last week's game, Lane United looked like a team without much punch. Now, it's looking like they will crush Yakima, who have given up 4 goals in 2 games.

Julian Santos, the Yakima manager, has a more defensive style than Mike Snider, so the battle between the Reds' attack and the Hoppers' defense will be the prime decider of this battle.

For Yakima, midfielder Randy Murray will be out after suffering a twisted ankle in training. Lane United may decide to hold Ian Clements out after he received a gash in his arm against Idaho Falls.

Midfielder Isaac Oduro has joined the team and will be available for selection, and many believe he will be placed into the starting eleven.

Tomorrow's game will be at 3:00 pm PT at the Yakima County Sportsplex in Yakima. Odds have Yakima as the favorite at 5-4 odds.
