~Round 2 Power Rankings~


1. Canada(2-0)

Entering Round 2, China was the hottest team. After a 13-1 crushing of Japan led by Jordyn Huitema's 5 Goals, Canada takes over the #1 Spot. If Canada can keep playing like they did vs Japan they will win the Tournament.


2. China(2-0)

Dropping a spot China lands at #2 after a 7-0 smashing over South Africa. China is still a serious threat even after losing the #1 spot.


#3 United States(2-0)

The defending Champions drop to #3 after escaping Germany and holding them off. They are still the team to beat however as they are the defending Champs.


#4 Scotland(2-0)

Rallying from a 2 Goal deficit to breeze past Mexico lands Scotland #4. Scotland might be the sleeper Team in the Tournament.


#5 Japan(1-1)

Being blown out by 12 Goals by Canada drops Japan a few spots. However they can still be a sleeper as Round 3 approaches. Don't sleep on them yet.


#6 Korea(1-1)

With a victory over Nigeria, Korea climbs to #6. However with just 3 points and a tough matchup with Canada in Round 3, Korea may be dropped from the Tournament.


#7 Netherlands(1-0-1)

Netherlands beat France 6-2 in Round 2 and land at #7. However this may be the highest they'll climb unless they can upset USA in the next Round and earn a spot in the Quarter Finals.



#8 Germany(0-1-1)

Falling to United States may of just sealed the fate for Germany. However a matchup with France and a win may send Germany to the Quarter Finals. Points is the key here.


#9 France(0-2)

Falling to the Netherlands lands France at #9. A Round 3 matchup with Germany should send them packing early in front of their home country. Tough road for France this year. However depending on points and other matchups, France's hopes of a Quarterfinal spot might be possible. A win is needed first.


#10 Nigeria(0-2)

Nigeria has struggled in the Tournament. In both losses to Canada and Korea, they have failed to put up any Goals. A Round 3 matchup with Japan should seal the team's fate.


11. Mexico(0-2)

Mexico is treading water badly. Blowing a lead to Scotland and being dominated by Canada. A Round 3 matchup with South Africa should give them some points but it might be too little to late.


#12 South Africa(0-2)

Just like Nigeria, South Africa has failed to put up any goals in the Tournament. They meet Mexico in the final Group Round. Pack your bags Africa fans.

Round 3 Preview


Japan(1-1) VS Nigeria(0-2)

Entering the final Group Stage Round, Nigeria has 0 points and are need of a huge win over Japan. Even with a Win however, 3 points probably won't be enough for a spot in the Quarterfinals.


Canada(2-0) VS Korea(1-1)

Korea will look to knock off the hottest team entering Round 3. Even with a loss, Korea should still secure a spot in the Quarterfinals. However with a loss then a few teams must lose for Korea to see Round 4. Canada is no pushover however and have dominated the last 2 rounds.


China(2-0) VS Scotland(2-0)

Regardless how this one ends, both teams with 6 points and no losses should both automatically advance to the Quarterfinals. Question is who will get momentum with a win?


Mexico(0-2) VS South Africa(0-2)

A must win for both teams as neither have been able to get any points in the Tournament. Win puts you 3 points and a spot in the Quarterfinals while the loser is on a plane home.


United States(2-0) VS Netherlands(1-0-1)

Both teams will see the Quarterfinals, it's just a matter of if Netherlands can hang with the Defending Champs and steal a victory heading into the Quaterfinals.


Germany(0-1-1) VS France(0-2)

Germany enters with a single point to France's 0. A win gives you 3 and a spot in the Quarterfinals. A loss eliminates you from the Tournament. France has been dominated in from of their home country all Tournament. Now is the time for them to a get a W with their backs up against the wall.

JAPAN eliminates NIGERIA 5-0 and enters Quarterfinals!

PARIS- Japan(2-1) bounces back from their 13-1 drubbing by Canada by crushing the winless Nigeria(0-3).

With the 5-0 victory tonight, Japan enters the Quarterfinals and one step closer to the Women's World Cup.

Japanese All star Mana Iwabuchi led the way with 2 Goals.

Nigeria(0-3) officially eliminated from the Tournament with no wins and no points.

Nigeria was shut out in all 3 Matches never scoring any Goals.

KOREA no match for CANADA after 4-0 loss....



RECAP




PARIS- Canada(3-0) proved to be too much for Korea(1-2) after a 4-0 shutout tonight. The Captain Christine Sinclair led the way with 2 Goals while Janine Beckie and Desiree Scott followed.

Canada finished the Group stages with a perfect 3-0 record and scored 18 Goals in the 3 games.

Korea(1-2) should still secure a Quarterfinal Spot with 3 points but they don't control their own faith. Nigeria was already eliminated by Japan earlier and the rest of the round will be played shortly.

All Korea can do is watch and wait.

Canada will move on with 9 points.

SCOTLAND knocks off CHINA 3-2

PARIS- Scotland(3-0) proved to be a sleeper when they knocked off China(2-1) tonight 3-2.

China will still enter the Quarterfinals with Scotland but the matchups have yet to be determined.

MEXICO eliminates SOUTH AFRICA 4-0 awaits final standings...




RECAP




PARIS- Mexico(1-2) eliminated South Africa(0-3) tonight after a 4-0 shutout. Africa left the Tournament never scoring any Goals in their 3 losses.

Mexico is now on the board with 3 points will await the final games to see if they too will be eliminated or if they'll have a spot in the Quarterfinals.

South Africa became the second team eliminated after Nigeria(0-3).

Now it's a waiting game.

NETHERLANDS no match for USA in 4-0 loss...




RECAP




PARIS- USA was too much for the Netherlands to handle in a 4-0 shutout in the final stages. USA(3-0) will move on to the Quarterfinals along with Netherlands(1-1-1) who collected 4 points.

Mexico is still on life alert awaiting the Germany/France matchup.
