The criticism showalter is getting for having the umps check is crazy to me.

If he hadn’t done that every talking head would be talking today about what was on his ear, and would be killing buck for not doing anything

It's not a huge deal, but it was clear desperation. Not sure anyone actually believes he was using a substance besides salty Mets fans. Musgrove had sweaty ears. You can go back and look at other starts and his ears are just as shiny.

Edit: Here is a snapshot from his no hitter. Ears shining clear as day even beneath the youtube compression.

It was a bush league move. It's only purpose was to throw off Musgrove and it backfired. If they really suspected something why wait until the 6th? Embarrassing move from an embarrassing franchise.
