2022 - 2023 Hot Stove Thread

Arenado is opting in to the remainder of his contract and will be with cardinals through 2027 season

Off to a good start

How many Rockies hitters with big paydays have actually done better after leaving the Rockies?

We've seen guys like Arenado, Tulo, Walker (briefly in St.Louis), and Story have flopped once being moved.

Obviously we know of the impact of their stadium, but it's surprising to me that in the era with all these analytics, 3 of those 4 names we've seen moved have been in the past several years.

Smart move by Arenado, I can’t see him getting much more than the balance of what he’s owed if he opts out given he’s about to turn 32 at the start of the season. I’m curious to see what the market will be for deGrom when he opts out

Arenado hit .293 last year with 30 HRs and 103 RBIs

42 doubles
163 hits
.358 OBP
.533 SLG
.891 OPS

All of which are right around his career averages

If that is considered a flop season then the standards are set extremely high

Yeah that’s a stretch calling him a flop, plus you’re getting gold glove defense on top of those offensive numbers

Also, Walker hit just fine (as a 37-38 year old!) in his brief St. Louis tenure.

OPS+ of 144 (44 games) and 130 (100 games) in the regular season.
.293/.373/.707 with 6 HR, 11 RBI, 14 R in 15 games for the Cards in the '04 playoffs.

Larry Walker slander is a felony up here, Maj. Turn in your Canadian passport.

I'm thinking some team's opening bid will be at 5yrs @ $37M = $185M (wouldn't be surprised if it hit $200M)
