I'm kind of happy about what has come about of this. And that is because it has helped the Cardinals find out what kind of a team they are. They have been searching for themselves this entire year and I think these comments have woke up a sleeping giant in the Cardinals.

Re: Brandon Phillips calls out the Cardinals...

For those defending Cueto's actions, well, I can understand your point of resorting to a defense mechanism, but kicking with freakin cleats to the head? Guy should be suspended the rest of the year, I don't care what you guys think, he could have easily severely injured someone and lucky that he didn't. Reminds me of Todd Bertuzzi cheap shotting the Colorado Avalanche player years back, then pile driving him to the ice and ending his career. Cueto could have easily done that with what he was doing. I think an example should be set going forward.
Maybe not the rest of the season, but something significant to say "We don't tolerate this **** fellas, so you better stop or else"

The problem with a player running off at the mouth like Phillips did is that the team couldn't back it up on the field. The getting swept in at home and being out scored 21-8 in the 3 games series. At least when Votto spouted off against the Cubs the Reds won 3 out of 4 against them.

The Reds have not been relevant since 1999 and this brings some attention to what has been a mostly terrible division outside of the Cardinals/Reds and maybe this will light a fire into the Reds. Expect the remaing games between these two to be dog fights from here on out.
Votto never spatted off about the Cubs it was all a joke. He said he didnt like Byrd because he was a Cub and he was kidding, he even laughed after he said it. Well leave it to a Chicago media member to run with it and turn it into something it wasnt.
People are making too big of a deal out of this 3 game sweep. The Cards threw there 3 best pitchers and the Reds didnt hit well. The Reds are still only 1 game out.

Yeah that Chicago sportswriter conveniently left out the fact that Votto said all of that tongue-in-cheek. I still haven't seen an apology from that jerk either. He writes on the ESPNChicago.com blog. Bruce Levine is his name.

So would the wins have counted more if they didn't have their best 3 going? If the Cardinals win the division by 1 or 2 games will the sweep be a big deal then?

No the sweep was not a big deal at all as we are now back in first by ourselves.
You guys just lost 2 of 3 at home to the Cubs who we just swept at Wrigley. Again the 3 game sweep means nothing if you then play horribly vs the Cubs.

FIRST PLACE BABY!
In all honesty the cardinals play the reds good,
the reds play the cubs good,
and the cubs play the cardinals good
