I doubt AA is gonna go after a guy who may be 32 or in reality 35 for that kind of money and term.

Dan Uggla just signed for $62 MM over 5 years. Rickie Weeks signed for $38.5 MM over 4 years (it could be worth $50 MM over 5 years).

Weeks has never had a season like Bautista's so you can see the extra $15 MM right there.

Uggla has been very consistent but is a weaker defender and just as old as Bautista.

They might have paid a bit too much, but if Bautista has another year like this one, he could have made more in the open market in 2012. Especially considering he can play several positions which means you have to start looking at teams like the Yankees and Red Sox signing him up.

Even if Bautista's rates fall down a bit, I won't question that he is very likely a 30 HR guy with an ability to get on-base. Hard to argue that isn't worth $13 MM a year in this market.

I disagree with SPTO here, I think AA will go hard after Albert if he's a FA.

It would definitely be the biggest statement move we have seen the Jays make in a long time, if ever. And the biggest name player to sign with Toronto since Roger Clemens.
