Re: Baseball Books?

I am currently reading a book called Bood Sport: A-Rod, Biogenenisis and the quest to end Baseballs steroid era.

It is pretty entertaining and tells a good behind the scenes look at Alex Rodriguez and Anthony Bosch, also some side stories on Ryan Braun, Miguel Sano, Wilson Ramos and Melky Cabrera.
A good read during this time of the year.

Id give it a solid 4/5

Re: Baseball Books?

Going through Bloodsport now after Game of Shadows while still trying to love the game lol

But this book is great, and some of it is even funny. A line that had me cracking up for some reason, when talking about A-Rod continuing to struggle in the playoffs despite his chemical enhancments:

"Anthony Bosch could only do so much to help. He was a fake nutritional doctor, after all, not a fake psychiatrist."

Just boils down the insanity of the whole situation to a few sentences, loved that.

I am a little late to this discussion, but I read The Numbers Game by Alan Schwarz recently. Really fascinating if you're interested in statistics. Goes through the history of stats in baseball covering everything from Strat-O-Matic to at least one or two chapters on Bill James. Highly recommend.

Conceco's first book, "Juiced" was great.

You're not going to pass your SAT's or gain a MENSA membership from reading it, but it's a fun read with some great stories.

Re: Baseball Books?

Just got done with The Captain by Ian O Connor, you just wouldn't believe someone has lived Jeter's life without seeing it lol, him and Tom Brady are a whole different level of just blessed.

About to start The Book by Tom Tango, interested in getting hopefully a definitive explanation on some sabre concepts I didn't grasp fully. This could be one that I love, given that it takes all of the information used to evaluate the game and reapplies it to determine how it should be played. I've always wondered about how effective a sac bunt is and things like that, now I'll have the answer, sounds awesome.

The only thing with reading anything by Jose is you don't know if you're reading fact, or fiction, or faction lol.

Re: Baseball Books?

I saw "Juiced" on the shelves at the local thrift store for 99 cents and passed, lol. Maybe I should have bought it. There were two copies of his other book there too.

I'm currently reading "From MudHens to Mavericks". Well, not so much reading as flipping through as its one of those baseball fact books with no real narrative. This book details every minor league through Class A-Advanced, it's pretty dated but still a fun read.

I also own maybe half a dozen baseball stadium fact books, "Green Cathedrals" is one. I love books like this, you can browse through a few pages before nodding off at night.
