2013-14 Hot Stove League Thread

The potential for injury or breaking down is my real concern. I'm sure the Tigers value his market power in Detroit and simple reasoning that having the best hitter on your team (for how long though?) and a true ace makes you a contender.

I doubt in the lifespan of this deal, many players will be making $30 MM to devalue the cost of the deal but you're right that the $30 MM cost of a win could come down from where it is now.

I just think waiting the two extra years would have allowed them to better evaluate his performance past 30 and offer a contract that might meet expectations at closer value.

Either way, I seriously doubt his contract will dramatically affect their ability to add contracts to continue competing down the line.

This.. wasn't my point lol. The average cost of a win in the MLB is like $7.5m right now. For the Tigers, who probably value wins a lot more since they're competitive, it might be closer to $10m. As contracts keep inflating, the value of a win will keep inflating, making his contract more and more valuable in relativity.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm saying.

The value of a win for a $30 MM yearly salary will go down making the $30 MM less expensive.

Edit: sorry. I mean the value will go up. I see why my wording was confusing. I made it confusing. But yeah I'm trying to say the same thing.

Report: In the off season the Orioles offered Zach Britton to the Mets for Ike Davis and the Mets turned it down.

Twins acquire Eduardo Nunez from the Yankees for Miguel Sulbaran.

That's the right thing for the Mets to do no doubt

He'll always have a place in Philly for his role in helping the Phillies win the 2008 World Series, but boy was he an average pitcher. He was really good for the Phils from July-October though when he came over from Oakland in 2008.
