re: MLB Off-Topic

Just to illustrate a point, if the Phillies sent the Cubs two Cole Hamels, I might take the trade. I might. Maybe. Boring justification:

Spoiler

In English, Hamels' contract really, really cuts into his worth as an asset to the point that he's maybe half as valuable as Russell.

A fair exchange for him would a hitter in the 25-50 top prospect range like Arismendy Alcantara, Jorge Soler, or Albert Almora straight up, or a pitcher 11-25 which the Cubs don't have. And Hamels is a 30 y/o pitcher which, while factored into the aging curve, detracts from his value in that his arm could go boom at any time, in which you're left with a CC style steaming heap of contract.

This could all change depending on how much money the Phillies eat. For Addy Russell to be fair (not even necessarily worth it) for the Cubs, they'd have to eat $20-30M.

So yeah, I really wouldn't do that lol. GG Theo.

26 wRC+ so far. We're gonna need him to show he can do more than hit dingers.
Thanks for reminding me why I stay out of this forum.

Because I use stats with an abbreviation, I shouldn't be allowed to post, right? I'm fully allowed to call Cam out on his Harper reference if I have an opinion to back it up, which I do (Harper's likely upcoming regression in power).

If I did something against the ToS, cool, call me out on it, but it's ridiculous how I get called a smartass, dick, *******, POS, and other things, as well as get told that I'm the reason that you stay out of this forum because I use stats that aren't popular with people, and that that's okay, but somehow what I say isn't.

re: MLB Off-Topic

I don't think Cam was saying that Baez is as good as Harper already because he has 1 less HR in 200 or however many less ABs.

It was just a cool/funny stat that didn't really need further interpretation or sabermetrization (yeah I made that up).

Kehlis can correct me if I'm off base, but I think that's what his comment was referring to.

Never said you violated TOS.

It was the whole "If were going to misuse stats" quote that annoys me.

Have at it, you're fine. Just seems high and mighty to me but nothing against the TOS.

And what's with getting so defensive lol? I just shared (as I did last week) that it's posts like that that keep me away from here.

I know he's not saying that Baez is as good as Harper lol, Cam's a smart guy. I was saying that Harper's power is likely better than what he's produced so far. His HR/FB% is something like half of his career's. He just picked Harper for name value.

It's a cool fun fact but it's also misleading imo. Better examples could be Jay Bruce or Mark Trumbo.

Sabermetrization should be in the dictionary lol.

I know, I was just giving a hypothetical.

I was pointing out what happens when you misuse stats. I dunno, I could have said "See, this is what happens when you misuse stats" but that doesn't sound much different/better. I don't see how I was being high and mighty. Cam and I have discussions like this all the time, in the forums and through PM.

I dunno, I think I have the right to be a bit defensive when I frequently get blasted and told that I'm exactly what's wrong with this forum (not just you) for merely having an opinion.

I use some basic sabremetrics stats and am still learning or trying to learn more of them. When you comment on my posts with advanced stats I just go to FanGraphs and look up what they mean lol. I like learning new stats so I don't mind when you do it.
To me, sabremetrics is very important to the game now because you can look deeper at a player and have more accurate predictions. Sure traditional stats are simple and easy to look at, but you are not getting the whole picture.
