Makes sense, good points.

Oh it's definitely a job, just sometimes I like to be idealistic about it

BTW I didn't know this wrinkle until I was watching the Jays game last night but the "heartfelt" apology statement that Marte made was signed by his agent rather than him. I mean, I know that's par for the course in a lot of respects but if you want to come across as genuinely sorry than the least you can do is sign your own damn statement.

The team operating with a sense of morality is the same team left behind in the competitive market.

He won't get paid during his suspension so he definitely loses money. But so long as he stops taking PEDs he will be just fine collecting the rest of his contract.

I agree that voiding the contract is unrealistic but what I do really like the fact that he's automatically disqualified from the playoffs because of this should a miracle happen and the Pirates make it.

That would be a pretty tough pill to swallow watching them from home.

Re: MLB Off-Topic

Agree 100%, I think the playoff ineligibility is the key. If you want to get guys to stop taking PED's, you need to punish the entities that reward them for doing so. I think that is a great way to incentivize teams to do their own due diligence and not just look the other way.

Vice Sports had a good article on Marte, talking with Victor Conte. Conte basically said that the drug Marte took is too easy to find in your system.

Re: MLB Off-Topic

Disappointed about Marte, like watching that kid play, and he's so talented.

The risk still outweighs the reward, 80 games, no playoffs, isn't a big deal if you play on a middling or crappy team.

There's really only one way to get the message across, and unfortunately it's a lifetime ban for any offense.

Zero tolerance policy is really the only way to discourage any use of drugs. That would really make players think, is this really worth it.
