In the 1940's they worried about football over taking it, in the 1960's they were worried about the pitching dominating and the game becoming too boring, in the 1970's they worried about competitive balance, in the 1980's/1990's a lot of the same stuff being discussed today was being discussed then.

Complaining/worrying about the national pastime is as much a pastime as the game itself.
Sometimes I wonder how we even got here.

Like, how did they get guys to start wearing helmets or play in 330 foot fields instead of 500?

Crazy game. I love it so much.

I don't think a lot of baseball players have a signature. The only place to differentiate for the most part are stance and delivery. I do agree obviously that NFL QB's have an inherent popularity that goes into them, but the game also offers opportunities to show personality where baseball doesn't.

And that's because of what dubcity said.. if a guy celebrated as much and as intensely as Cam does, he'd be beaned every other game.

Which is stupid. "Hey kids, you can score but if you celebrate too much, they're gonna throw at you next time."

Let them freaking celebrate. It's hard as hell to hit a 4 inch round ball with a 3 inch round bat. It's even harder to hit it 400 feet. You wanna dab? Go for it. Wanna see how high your bat flip goes? Go for it.

We always want players to show personality, but not if it means nicknames on jerseys or admiring your own blast, the latter earning you 95 mph to the ribs.

Re: MLB Off-Topic

To be fair, most of the guys that don't like the nicknames also don t like the celebrating. I don't think there's three group of fans.

There are those that say go for it and those that scoff at the thought.

The people who celebrate like in center field after a win do the ****ing dab.

Do something unique at least.

Lol, imagine the outrage. Or pretty much any of those signature celebrations we see in the NFL or NBA.

Instead we have guys get heat for taking too long rounding the bases after a HR. People breaking out the stop watch lol. It's by far the least physical of all the major sports, and yet players are the most sensitive about being shown up.

A Linebacker completely levels a RB, celebrates, and the RB just goes back to the huddle like it didn't happen. James Harden hits a jumper with a guy right in his face, does that "stir the pot" celebration, and the defender just jogs back and moves on.

The day when baseball players and fans relax with the outrage over showing attitude and swagger will be a good day.

I completely agree. Unfortunately, the game here just hasn't adapted to it yet. Maybe it's moving that way, though. I had a player today pimp what he thought would be a HR, turned out it hit the wall and the other team was laughing as much as ours was.

Granted, it's summer ball, so it's not taken as seriously anyway.
