Does that mean that both sides of the mutual were exercised? If so, that's may have been the first time I've seen that I can remember where both sides were exercised.

If the Brewers need money, they could always send Parra to the Tigers.

Yes, both sides agreed to exercise their halves of the contract

Hard to really react to the news since it's been pretty much known since the second Gardy was fired. Hopefully Molitor isn't afraid to get away from the "Twins Way"

Saw an interesting nugget on Twitter, following this news.

This makes the University of Minnesota the only school with alumni as a head coach/manager of a team in all 4 major sports.

MLB - Molitor
NFL - Trestman
NHL - Richards
NBA - McHale, Saunders.

Re: 2014-15 Hot Stove League Thread

List of players who received a qualifying offer:

Melky Cabrera, Blue Jays
Nelson Cruz, Orioles
Michael Cuddyer, Rockies
Francisco Liriano, Pirates
Russell Martin, Pirates
Victor Martinez, Tigers
Hanley Ramirez, Dodgers
David Robertson, Yankees
Pablo Sandoval, Giants
Ervin Santana, Braves
Max Scherzer, Tigers
James Shields, Royals

I'd say Cuddyer should accept it and Robertson should strongly consider it at 15.3 M. Robertson may get a longer deal, but draft pick comp. has historically hurt relievers and he'll never get 15.3 M average value in any deal. I could see Liriano sitting awhile in FA if he doesn't accept the QO.

Thoughts on any of the candidates?

I"m really pulling for Molly (get ready to hear that A LOT over the course of his tenure LOL) and I think he could be a good manager. I think one of the reasons why it took so long for this to happen is that he had to wrap his mind around the whole thing and to realize what he's getting himself into. It's very hard for a favored son of an organization to become a manager/coach because well, teams don't want to have to fire that guy eventually if it doesn't work out. It's one reason why Sandberg wasn't hired in Chicago and per Ken Rosenthal this morning on the Hot Stove it's the main reason why Robin Yount has never been given the opportunity to manage the Brewers.

Molitor's been around some pretty good managers in his time and I think he'll get along well with his players. One thing he has in favor compared to other HOF types who've taken that role is that he's been in the trenches with these guys already and knows the organization inside and out. I've heard that Rick Renteria may be hired as his bench coach and that'd be a very astute hire IMO.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the Twins as long as Molitor is the manager there.

A.J. Burnett just declined his option with the Phillies. He said he wants to pitch for a contender. The Dodgers are at the top of the list. They need a #5 starter.
