Re: 2018 MLB Awards

Glad to see the voters were sensible in regards to these awards.

the CY young award feels less narrative driven so I'm not getting my hopes up here. the voters are v bad in that regard.

Re: 2018 MLB Awards

Trout got out-Trouted this year, the award is Mookie's. But I also thought it was clearly Judge's so... Who's to say?

Re: 2018 MLB Awards

J.D. Martinez will win it for both leagues.

^^^That's from Fangraphs.

I could see it going either way, with Betts having an edge because of the Red Sox winning 108 games and some voters being tired of Trout continuously winning the MVP (not saying that this latter items should matter, it is what it is).

Trout? Don't see or expect that to happen this season. He missed some games late in the season which hurt his chances. I still am in a little shocked that J.D. Martinez wasn't a finalists myself. I guess they didn't want 2 players from the same team. I think it's Mookie & in my opinion it shouldn't even be close really. What he did for the Red Sox this season was nothing short of amazing.

Re: 2018 MLB Awards

Scherzer over deGrom for NL Cy Young? Writer explains his vote.

An excerpt:

Quote:
DeGrom had a fantastic season and the Mets did a great job sending out his facts and figures. Obviously, a 1.70 ERA over 217 innings is a fabulous accomplishment. But he had 10 wins and nine losses.

Yes, the Mets were a bad club, offensively and defensively. He didn't get run support. One emailer pointed out that if the Mets had scored two runs in DeGrom's starts, he would have been 20-6; three runs would have been 25-1; four runs 30-0.

But you know what they say about ifs and buts. The numbers are what they are and — after hours of consideration — I was swayed by Scherzer’s 18-7 mark in 220 2/3 innings on an under-achieving Nationals club.

I spoke with Randy Jones, a man I greatly respect. He was 22-14 with a bad Padres team in 1976 and won the Cy Young Award.

In that conversation, Randy said, "Wins are the most important thing in the game. You need to pitch to the run support you get, whether that's one, two, three or 12.”
And that's that.

Re: 2018 MLB Awards

That record with 2 runs stat is insane. 20-6? I realized his run support was bad but sheesh.
