MLB/Owners reportedly will offer a core economics proposal to the players union within two weeks.

Sounds like the owners presented their offer to the players and the players didnt like it.

The service time idea they had was to simply award a team a bonus draft pick if a top ranked prospect ends up being a top vote getter in his rookie season for any major award.

Owners also dont want to see luxury tax increase. They also proposed the 14 team playoff format.


I know the business side is the main thing they care about, but it doesn't feel much like they're really addressing any gameplay aspects in the CBA. Maybe it'll come later on, but for now, just sounds like the luxury tax and service time are the key issues.

The owners proposed the Universal DH which will be accepted as the players want it as well. I imagine the players union will accept the universal DH so long as they get "X"

I also believe the players will counter with 12 team playoffs that the owners will agree to in exchange for "y".

The international draft versus signing day is intriguing.

Since a lot of these guys play college ball now they need to do something with free agency.

Would the 6 team format work like the old NFL playoff system?

3v6, 4v5, and 1 and 2 get byes?

International draft needs to be a thing. And make draft picks tradable too. Maybe even have those draft picks being the ones tied to FA compensation.

Not sure how they'd determine draft order. The regular draft in June already is reverse order of the teams regular season finish. They wouldn't have 2 drafts a year rewarding the exact same teams the same picks would they?

Unless they have 1 draft that's a weighted draft based on your past X season finishes. Or maybe, one draft is based on your finish last year, and the other draft ranks teams solely based on how their entire farm system finished (so you total up all the wins that every AAA,AA,A and so on teams finished).

What’s the argument again international draft, or even just having one draft that includes international players. The only thing I’ve heard is that teams invest a lot of money in baseball academies in other countries and they’d be reluctant to do that if anyone will be able to draft the players they’re developing.
