News and discussion of the impending discussions and lockout go here.

This league needs fixing. Whether that fix comes from this upcoming bloodbath or not remains to be seen.

I don't know... We are in a very very long off-season. They say owner have not made any changes to their changes. And players haven't made any either. We might be in a for haul.

We know the players are going to bend first

This is the owners only chance, so they definitely wont be giving up easy

        Question:

Can't most of these players go overseas and make similar amounts of money?

Yep, and if there's a lockout we might be seeing some Euro ball on ESPN for a little while.

Who's going to pay an NBA player, especially ones who dont deserve it like Joe Johnson that much money?

On top of that, those guys pay players whenever they want to.. I remember even Brandon Jennings having some payment issues when he went overseas

In short, nah it wouldnt be the same although their cap is different, they dont pay like the NBA does

Contractually, I imagine it would create a nightmare, but maybe I'm wrong. These guys are all under contract with the NBA once the lockout ends, and they'll have to sign contracts with Euro-teams to play out there. That would probably get ugly, very quickly.

I wonder what would happen if the Players started their own league? Would there be any legal ramifications if the players just collaborated together and started their own?

Obviously, they'll all play at the new arena that they're working dilligently to build in Sacramento.

                      LOL!

Of course, there would be some sort of planning involved. Maybe the first year they might have to rent out a university stadium and then go from there.

BUT creating your own league isn't something that's going to happen overnight. However, they wouldn't have any issues marketing their league. Heck, it'll be NBA players. Who wouldn't want to still see them play? Even if it's at Welsh-Ryan Arena at Northwestern University for a year or so?

Yeah they would because the tv stations have contracts with the NBA

They'd basically be a youtube league or a justintv league not making nearly as much money, doubt they'd have the same medical support, training facilities, etc...

They'd be better off retired with Shaq

I don't know about that. I was just reading something a couple weeks ago talking about the upcoming labor thing and they mentioned how the Players haven't bent in the NBA ever. The owners are the ones that caved back in 99 and forced Stern to end things. I'll try to find the article. Hell someone here might've posted it.

I don't know why the player's would bend first, there's no product without them.

because they cant save a dime to save their lives thats why

this is a different time than it was before

especially with the atmosphere of the league, guys bolting teams, teams handicapped by long term deals
even if it is the owners fault, the league claiming huge loses in consecutive years..

Theyre going to change some things for sure
