If you want to go by PER, which I don't necessarily have a problem with, then yes, he's having a beast season.

There is also no question he should get MVP.

This was the same crap they pulled with Kobe all the time.

I mean you're downing guys who didnt have medicines, weights, trainers, doctors, etc.... that these guys have today and they still achieved things noone else in history has and we have to continually hear this

Its just annoying and I wish there was a real competitor to BSPN because their shtick(sp?) is tired

If you were reffering to me, I never exalted him to anything. I said he has a CHANCE to be the best of his era. Just like Kobe does, just like Wade does, and probably like Howard does as well. He also has a chance of not winning anything and playing average for the rest of his career and he'll be nothing more than a distant memory. There was no "exaltation"

Also, I specifically said that "GOAT" is not a real argument because it's all hypothetical and very subjectively driven.

Re: Is LeBron Having One Of The Best Individual Seasons Of All Time?

Nah im not referring to you

When you're the best of the era, there is usually not a comparison in your ballpark

..and Kobe has a zero chance of being the best of this era... says Mr Duncan and Mr Oneal

Its just a shot at the argument they presented or lack thereof of what they were implying.

Lebron should be allowed to play out his career and fall into history where he may. They'll be doing this same crap with Durant in a few years

Re: Is LeBron Having One Of The Best Individual Seasons Of All Time?

When you consider the pace, his numbers are incredible and certainly stack up to some of the best seasons of all-time. Jordan in his prime and Bird from 84-88 are hard to argue against, as both of those guys were just dominating in every way imaginable, and they have similarly well-rounded games. Of course you can argue that the NBA has gotten soft and LeBron doesn't have to deal with hand checks and all the punishment that MJ/Bird suffered through, which certainly affects his numbers.

But yeah, if you look at a combined metric like PER, he's having the 2nd best season of the modern era, next to MJ's 87-88 season. The big reason that LeBron's 2009 is better than all but that one absolutely incredible Jordan season is because MJ was a god-awful 3PT shooter... also, he played 2 more minutes per game, which certainly adds up over the course of the year and affects a metric like PER. The difference is MJ's steal numbers that year, which were insane at 3.1 SPG -- but otherwise, LeBron's total package is greater because he's getting nearly 3 rebounds and 2 assists more per 40 minutes than MJ did in his best statistical season. Any way you slice it, it's pretty crazy, and we're lucky to be watching this guy play.

FYI, Wade is on pace for the 10th best PER season of the modern era, and CP3 is headed for #13... great time to be an NBA fan.

Re: Is LeBron Having One Of The Best Individual Seasons Of All Time?

..And again its a dishonest comparison because you leave out all of the variables across era's

You can't just dismiss what was happening at that time with defense, further 3pt line, no arc beyond the rim, etc and come up with a reasonable argument.......and there is no realistic way to know what would've happened.

Its just like the one game where Bron went off on DET and they immediately went to MJ asking him if he graduated to his own status. Not only was it a silly question but that's the mantra for these days now

If Jordan only played games to pad his stats to see how many triple doubles he could get, or how many rebounds or whatever in this era in his younger days, people would put him in another parallel universal throne

Re: Is LeBron Having One Of The Best Individual Seasons Of All Time?

Come on man, you can't possibly account for those things in statistics. By your logic, there's no point in comparing anything beyond players who played in the same exact season with the same rules, players, points of emphasis by the officials, etc.

Every season in the NBA the cast changes -- what if the overall defensive ability is higher than it was back in the 80's and LeBron is simply contending with better defenders than Bird and Jordan were? I'm not saying that's the case, but you can't possibly account for these kinds of factors... we're reduced to looking at everything in and of itself.

I guess if you just want to look at each season on its own and compare players within season, that's fine with me... I think it's instructive to look at numbers from past eras, even if the comparisons obviously aren't perfect. The game hasn't changed THAT much in the modern era to make any and all comparisons totally invalid.
